Stencil A Portuguese Alhambra Tile Table
Stencil Patterns Add Personality To Ikea Lack Tables
Good morning, my
Cutting Edge Stencils friends. The simplistic design of the Ikea Lack side table makes it a versatile choice for just about any space. Unfortunately this inexpensive side table is only available in a couple of colors. Paint,
furniture stencils, and a dash of creativity can help transform it into a colorful custom piece. A
fun stencil design can instantly add a dose of personality and style to this lackluster piece. Today we're going to share an Ikea Lack side table makeover using the
Alhambra Tiles Pattern that is sure to inspire.
We'd like to welcome back Anam, the creative DIYer and furniture makeover queen behind the blog
Delicious and DIY. Anam loves all things DIY and her blog is a little gem for furniture makeover projects. She came across two small black Ikea Lack tables. These small side tables cost about $10 at Ikea. They are simple yet full of possibilities especially if you are as clever as Anam! Here is what the side table looked like before she gave it a stenciled makeover.
This plain Ikea table was a blank canvas. The first thing she did was paint it using DecoArt Outdoor Living in Morning Glory blue. This beautiful blue shade in a satin finish was the perfect color to instantly brighten the side table. After the fresh coat of paint was dry she was ready for the fun part,
stenciling! Anam browsed our new
tile stencil collection and fell in love with the
Alhambra Tiles Stencil. This abstract stencil combines a few traditional Portuguese Azulejos tile designs into one stunning pattern.
She positioned the tile
stencil pattern on the top of the table and it fit perfectly! Then she painted the pattern using three different DecoArt Outdoor Living paints in purple, coral, and bright pink.
If you're trying to recreate this, pour your paint onto a plate or paint tray. Dip your stencil brush into the paint. Brush off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel until the brush looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Painter's tape can help hold the stencil in place. Next you will paint the design onto the table with the stencil brush. Once the pattern is complete, you'll need to reposition the stencil to complete the design. Simply pick up the stencil, align it, and continue painting the pattern.
Once the painted stencil was dry, Anam went over the entire table with Rustoleum Clear Gloss spray. Are you ready to see how her Ikea Lack tables look today? Here they are!
We absolutely love how Anam's side tables turned out! She had this to say about the project, " I think these tables turned out stunning using the beautiful stencils from Cutting Edge Stencils and Satin Enamel paints from DecoArt Inc."
