DIY Porch Accent Pillows Using the Sakura and Birds Stencil
Use Stencils To Create Custom DIY Accent Pillows
Good morning, my crafty friends.
Cutting Edge Stencils has been writing about how you can use stencils to easily update your outdoor area ( see this
post and this
post). But we honestly believe that no outdoor space is complete without a pretty accent pillow. Outdoor pillows can cost a small fortune so we'd like to introduce you to our sister company,
Paint-A-Pillow! It's a DIY pillow kit that comes with everything to make a custom accent pillow. Let's take a look at today's inspirational pillow projects.
We'd like to welcome back Anne, the creative DIY blogger behind
White Lace Cottage. Anne has been working on a porch remodel. In fact, you might remember her Anna Damask stenciled screened-in deck from last week.
Well a porch bench is simply not complete without some accent pillows. That's where
Paint-A-Pillow steps in. Anne browsed the site and fell in love with a garden inspired pattern, the
Sakura and Birds. She selected two natural-colored pillow covers and Jacquard Fabric Paint in Pink, Turquoise, and Brown. Before we spill the beans on how to recreate this project, we'll give you a quick glimpse at her pretty pillows.
Those pillows are dreamy! Anne was happy to see that her kit included everything she needed to kickoff this project.
She poured her Magenta Jacquard Fabric paint into a foam tray. Anne wanted a soft look for her accent pillows so she custom mixed her paint colors. She chose to paint the flower part of the pattern using the dense foam roller that is included in the kit. ** If you are painting with more than one color, we always suggest starting with the lighter color first.
Anne was careful to not overload the roller because this would cause the paint to bleed under the stencil. After the pink was painted, she used the stencil brush to paint the birds and branches.
When the pillow was completely painted, Anne chose to heatset it using a warm iron to make it washable.
And that's how she did it folks! Here are Anne's beautifully stenciled accent pillows.
Anne had this to say about her project, " It really is super easy. I love the fact that you can design it by using any colors that you choose. That makes them a one of a kind. Paint- A- Pillow makes a wonderful gift for someone too."
