We'd like you to welcome back Anne, the creative DIYer and blogger behind White Lace Cottage. It's honestly one of our favorite decorating blogs so after you finish reading this you need to hop on over and follow her. Anne truly has a beautiful home. Each space exhibits her personality and passion for cottage decor. Anne plans to downsize in a couple of years so this year she hosted a garage sale where she sold off some of the items she wasn't using anymore. She wanted a simpler space with less clutter. Here is what her family room looked like before she decluttered.
After placing some of her items in the garage sale, the family room felt like it was lacking style. Rather than add decorating clutter, Anne chose to use a typography stencil to add a splash of personality. Ann commented, "I’ve used many of their stencils in my home because they are so easy to use and versatile as well." She browsed our website for the perfect stencil pattern for her project and landed on the French Letter Stencil. This beautiful typography allover pattern can flatter any space!
Anne's family room was already painted a creamy shade of white. With her stencil in hand, she was ready to start her project. She used blue painters tape to hold the stencil in place on the wall and the clip-on stencil level to ensure the pattern was evenly placed on the wall. Then she poured her paint into a small tray and painted with a dense foam roller. Anne painted the typography stencil pattern in Glorious Gold by DecoArt .
After each stencil design was painted, Anne would un-tape the stencil design and reposition it until her wall was painted. She wanted her pattern to appear faded in certain areas so she used an uneven pressure while painting. The lighter application gave the stencil an aged or worn look in some spots.
Once the stencil was complete, Anne stepped back to admire her handiwork.
