An Indian Arrows Stenciled Tween Room + A Giveaway
Stencils Add A Fun and Stylish Twist to A Tween Bedroom
Happy Friday, my DIY mamas!
Cutting Edge Stencils has four secrets to creating the perfect tween room on a budget. Number one is to add bold colors. It's ok to use colors in the crayon box that you would never dream of using in the rest of your home. Number two is to ditch the theme. Number three is to give your tween a say. It's their space so seek out their opinion. And finally paint a stenciled accent wall. We see that as the secret to every room's makeover success. Today we're going to share a stylish tween room with a fun stenciled accent wall.
Meet Alyson, the decorating enthusiast and proud Mama behind the blog
The Ragged Wren. Alyson's husband received a job opportunity that would move their family across the country. They happily accepted the new adventure and put their house on the market. The home sold in about 24 hours which was fabulous news. There were a series of moving glitches that landed the creative DIYer in a temporary apartment with her three kids. Apartment living can be a bit of a drag since it can limit the decorating options. Rather than be a gloomy gus about the situation, Alyson put on her fancy DIY hat. She decided to give her teen daughter a modern room makeover filled to the brim with cool DIY projects that personalized her space. Here is a sneak peek at her newly stenciled accent wall:
It looks awesome, doesn't it? We told you she was a great mama! Let's back up for a minute and explain how she stenciled this cool accent wall. The room is an odd shape and on the small side. The bed sits nestled between three large windows. Opposite the bed is an unusual angled wall that you view from sitting in the bed. Because this is an apartment, Alyson did not want to paint the whole room and have to paint it back at the end of the year when they moved out. She decided that a painted pattern was doable and easier to paint back to white.
Alyson chose our
Indian Arrows Allover stencil, it's one of our new arrow patterns. She decided to stencil the arrow pattern in four different vibrant colors (Dragon Fruit, Bahama Breeze, Coral Blush, and Peaches n Cream) using Americana craft paint.
She used painters tape to hold the stencil to the wall and the Cutting Edge Stencil's
clip-on stencil level to ensure the pattern was straight. Alyson had this to say about the stencil level, "this is the best tool ever!"
Using the stencil brush, she carefully painted. If you are recreating this at home, please remember to brush off excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the stencil to bleed.
After the pattern was painted, Alyson would carefully remove it and reposition the stencil to continue. She did this until her entire accent wall was painted.
Here is the stylish bedroom with a completed accent wall. We absolutely love how fun the pattern looks in these vibrant colors.
Alyson purchased a simple wicker basket to use as a hamper and painted the bottom half blue to compliment the space.
She also purchased small knick knacks from her local craft store.
