Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! Moving into a bland rental apartment with decor limitations can be a bummer, but it doesn't mean you've got to stay stuck with a home that doesn't express your personality. Stencils are a fun and economical way to create a pattern and personality in your space. Today we're going to inspire you with a gorgeous stenciled living room that just so happens to be in a rented apartment! We'd like to introduce Alicia D., one of our creative DIY fans. Alicia and her husband live in Army housing in Wiesbaden, Germany. The cookie cutter accommodations are pleasant but they lack personality. As it turns out Army housing is a lot like typical apartment living. The residents are given a basic apartment with white walls and wood floors. The rules say they can decorate as they wish but it must be put back to its original state when they move out. Here is a typical apartment living room. Alicia liked her new apartment but wanted to give it her personal stamp. Wallpaper was out of the question. It was expensive and taking it down would be a complete hassle. So Alicia decided to add a wallpaper like pattern using a wall stencil. She browsed our website and fell in love with the Cascade Allover, a fun geometric pattern. With her stencil in hand, Alicia was ready to start stenciling! She used blue painter's tape to hold the stencil in place and she painted the pattern in warm,well-balanced brown similar to Benjamin Moore's firewood. After each section was complete, she would untape the stencil and reposition to finish the pattern on the wall. Once the stencil was complete, Alicia decorated with red accents. Ready to see how she transformed her once cookie cutter apartment? Here is her newly stenciled living room. Alicia had this to say about using a stenciled accent wall, " It is my favorite wall in my house. I feel very proud of the work I put into it. I get lots of people asking me where they can get that wallpaper." We love the way she added some personality to her space using the Cascade Allover Stencil.
