A DIY Hallway Makeover Using the Drifting Arrows Stencil

Happy Friday, my DIY weekend warriors. Cutting Edge Stencils has hallways on our minds today. This practical space connects rooms but is often neglected during the decorating process. Stencils are an easy way to add patterned interest and therefore brighten the blank canvas. Let's take a look at a hallway makeover using wall stencils to decorate the dull space.

We'd like to introduce Erin and Dan, the dynamite DIY duo behind the blog DIY Passion. The creative couple has been tackling one DIY project after another in their home. Recently they decided to update their upstairs hallway. The cluttered filled, drop off space seemed boring and bland. Here is the lackluster hallway that Erin started with... Erin wanted an easy and inexpensive way to brighten this space. The first thing Erin did was paint the wall using Lunenburg from PARA Paints, a Canadian paint company. Then she painted the trim and bead board in Chrysler Hall White. While a fresh coat of paint can do wonders for a small space, Erin took the project one step further. She decided to stencil the hallway wall using the Drifting Arrows Allover Stencil. Erin taped the stencil to the wall using painter's tape. To ensure the stencil lined up properly on the wall she used a Clip-on Stencil Level. She commented, "The stencil kit comes with this great little clip on level." Erin chose a subtle stencil color combination. She stenciled the trendy arrow pattern in Chrysler Hall White with a dense foam roller. After each section was painted, she would un-tape the stencil and realign until the entire wall was painted. Drumroll please, because we're about to share the big reveal! Here is Erin's newly stenciled hallway. We love how pretty this arrow pattern looks in soft white tones. Erin commented that she chose a subtle stencil color because, "It’s just enough to create some depth and interest." Now that the project is complete, Erin says, "I’d audibly gasp when I came up the stairs because it just feels so much lighter and brighter and modern and happy." Erin admits, "I’m sort of obsessed with this stencil now. We picked the arrow motif because arrows factor heavily into traditional nautical-style decor, but these arrows have a distinct modern-contemporary twist."
