Love and Renovations recently completed a DIY project for house and home: a beautiful
feature wall using wall stencils! Prior to her
Cutting Edge Stencils transformation, her living room was rocking a grey-dresser-against-a-grey-wall look and was just itching for some decor pizzazz! While Amanda acknowledged that she "hadn’t really thought about using stencils on that wall before," she soon realized that "it seemed like the perfect solution – cheap, easy, and makes a big impact!" Amanda was right on target, as wall stencils are definitely a great DIY way to add some stylish decor to your house and home on a budget!
DIY Wall Stencils
Amanda admits that she was nervous to begin her first DIY project with wall stencils, but luckily, she took the plunge and was so happy with the results! For anyone else out there who may be apprehensive to take on a DIY project with wall stencils: stencils are truly easy and fun, and anyone who wants to do it, can do it! Amanda found our
instructional how-to-stencil videos extremely helpful, but also learned a few things first-hand during her experience with wall stencils. Here are some tips and tricks that she recommends to others who are looking to take on DIY projects with wall stencils for house and home, specifically feature walls:
1.) Always remove excess paint from your roller! Too much paint on your roller puts you at a high risk for bleed.
2.) Mistakes are okay! If a few rows become a little crooked along the way, or you get some splotchy areas here and there, you most likely will not notice once the stencil project is complete.
3.) Paint dark colors on top of lighter colors! Amanda painted white onto dark grey, and shares that the white was not completely even all the way across the wall. She personally loves this vintage, worn-in look, but those who seek crisp, opaque coverage with stencils should choose their paints wisely.
