Lily Scroll Stenciled Room is A Fancy Must for a Little Girl's Bedroom

Now that we've taken care of that business, Cutting Edge Stencils has a super fancy little girl's room to share with you that even Fancy Nancy herself would be drooling over. You see while we were busy launching our cool nautical stencil collection, our friend Kristen was putting together the final touches on her two daughter's shared bedroom. At this point I'm going to have to ask you to have your lil' fancy nancy wannabes leave the room because if they spot this awesome space they'll be begging for you for a stenciled bedroom makeover!
Meet Kristen Duke, the ubber crafty DIY queen behind the blog Capturing Joy with Kristen Duke, and her newly revealed fancy girls bedroom with a Lily Scroll stenciled ceiling! Do you want me to wait a minute while you pick your jaw up off the ground? See I told you it was going to be fancy!
Kristen shares her bedroom makeover in a series of posts on her blog. Here is what the bedroom looked like before she got started. As you can see it's a pretty neutral space. Kristen loved the bedroom when they were babies because the lavender and mint green were simple, sweet, and soft. But as her little one grew a bit older (age 7) she knew she had outgrown the butterfly baby room.
As they transitioned the girls into bigger beds, Kristen decided it was time for a change. She wanted to give the bedroom a complete makeover into something that was fun, fancy, and filled with pattern and color. A space that her mini fashionistas could enjoy for awhile. So between brainstorming ideas with my oldest daughter and seeing all the stenciled ideas throughout the blogosphere, they both thought a purple stencil on the ceiling would pretty darn fancy. Her daughter wanted something floral and Kristen liked the more modern geometric shapes. What did the two agree on? Well the Lily Scroll stencil was the perfect mix!
Here she is working through the stenciling process. At first she used blue painters tape to hold the stencil in place but quickly found that she needed something a little stronger while she painted the ceiling. That's when she started using spray adhesive. She's spray the stencil and then let it dry for a second and then adhere it to the ceiling. This worked best in keeping the stencil in place.
She used a color similar to Benjamin Moore's kalamata AF-630 to get this velvety plum look. It's the perfect color for a ceiling because this rich purple creates a powerful sense of drama and dimension.
Here is the finished bedroom. See I told you this bedroom was just downright FANCY! Kristen says, "Doesn’t the ceiling look FAB-U-LOUS?!? I am in love with it!!!" It does look pretty awesome so I think we're going to have to agree with her!
