Use Wall Stencils To Make Farmhouse Inspired Wood Art

Welcome back, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Crafting wooden wall art from old pieces of wood is super trendy right now. Our stencil designs make it so easy and affordable to make unique farmhouse inspired decor. Today we're sharing how to turn trash to treasure using reclaimed wood and our Atma Mandala Stencil from our Mandala Stencils. This week Greg, one of the Cutting Edge Stencils owners, teamed up with Erika, a creative DIYer to craft reclaimed wood wall decor. Greg had found an old wooden fence laying on the side of the road. Greg saw some DIY potential in the weathered wood and scooped it up. He teamed up with Erika and together they decided to turn it into a piece of farmhouse wall decor using a pretty Mandala pattern and mason jars. Let's walk through the steps for completing this project. The first thing Greg did was clean off the reclaimed wood to ensure there was no debris that would get stuck under the stencil or make the paint peel. Greg cut a piece of quarter inch plywood to use as a base. He used Titebond Premium Wood Glue to adhere the reclaimed fence wood to the quarter inch plywood. Greg lined the backs of the wood planks with glue and then placed them on the board. Heavy duty staples were placed in the back of the plywood for extra hold. After the wood was prepped and ready to go, Greg and Erika decided to use one of our new Mandala Stencils for this fun project. They selected the 12 inch Atma Mandala Stencil. With the gorgeous Mandala pattern in hand Erika was ready for the fun part, stenciling! She sprayed the back of the stencil with Sticky Note spray adhesive which can be purchased from your local craft store or Amazon. Repositionable spray adhesive can help hold the stencil in place and reduce bleed. She placed it on top of the wood. Erika selected four Modern Master's metallic paints in Fall inspired colors for her project. She used a stencil brush to paint the Atma Mandala pattern. Erika made sure she brushed off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed. Once the entire design was painted, Erika lifted the stencil back to reveal the pattern. Are you loving how this wooden wall decor is looking? This old fence wood turned wall decor was already looking pretty but Erika didn't stop there. She decided to enhance it using small blue mason jars, a hot glue gun, and some pretty fall flowers. Greg and Erika used a hot glue gun to adhere the silver lids of the mason jars to the wood palette. Pretty fall flowers were placed into the jar to complete the look. It's gorgeous! And it's amazing how they took someone's trash and turned it into this decor treasure. Tell us, what stencil would you use on a piece of reclaimed wood?
