How to Stencil DIY Rustic Christmas Art
Easy DIY Christmas Craft Using Stencils
Good morning, my DIY crafters! Tis' the season to be jolly and
Cutting Edge Stencils is feeling super jolly. Are you wondering why? Well as it turns out, one of our favorite DIY bloggers shared the easiest Christmas craft using our stencils and an old wooden pallet. Come check it out...
We'd like to welcome back Ashley, the DIY craft star and blogger behind
Domestic Imperfection. Now Ashley is quite the stenciling rock star and we've featured many of her projects on our blog including her
Winter Snowflake art! This year she's back at it again, crafting adorable rustic Christmas art using stencils.
Here is the scoop on how to stencil a rustic Christmas wall art (this project comes from
Domestic Imperfection):
First you're going to need this stuff listed below:
-
Wooden Pallet
-
- Painter's tape
- Acrylic Craft Paint
- Blue Painter's Tape
- Stencil brush
- paper towel
1.
Gather Materials: Start the stencil project by gathering all of the materials listed above including a wooden pallet.
2.
Prep the Wood: Turn your wooden pallet into a canvas that meets your needs. Ashley used her pallet to create these three wooden canvases.
3.
Secure The Stencil: Position the stencil design on the wood. Ashley used three different stencils (
Snowflakes 3 pc Stencils Kit, Winter Cardinal Stencil, and the
Pine Cones Stencil) for this project. She preferred using the blue painters tape to secure the stencil in place.
4.
Start Stenciling: Pour your craft paint into a paper plate. Then dip you stencil brush into the paint being careful that you’re not over-coating the brush. Try blotting the paint brush onto the wood instead of sweeping it across like you would on a wall. This will help prevent any bleed. It’s important to build your paint coverage in layers for the cleanest lines possible. Elijah gave his Mom a hand with stenciling this project.
5.
Layer the Paint: To give this project more character, try layering on the paint. Paint the pine cones brown and the leaves green. Then lightly dab on a layer of white as a snow highlight.
6.
Attach a Wire and Hang: Once the design is dry, attach a wire in the back to hang. Ready to see how they look? Here are Ashley's Christmas wall art pieces:
