Stencil Patterns Can Decorate A Plain Ikea Serving Tray

Welcome back, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Summertime is the perfect time to enjoy the beautiful outdoor weather with friends and family. Rather than serve refreshments on a lackluster serving tray, we're going to show you how to easily transform a $7 Ikea tray using our tropical stencils. Let's take a look. We purchased a plain wooden serving tray from Ikea for $7 and decided to put a tropical twist on it using our adorable Pineapple Stencil. For our visual fans, you're going to enjoy this quick video tutorial. In this short how-to video, we show fans how easy it is to stencil an Ikea serving tray using a small Pineapple pattern. Let's walk through the steps for completing this fun and easy craft. Erika purchased the Ikea KLACK, a wooden servicing tray, for $7. The handles of the tray are wooden but the bottom is white particle boards. In order for her paint to properly adhere to the tray, Erika needed to apply a coat of primer to the bottom of the tray. She used blue painter’s tape to mark off the handles because she planned to leave them unpainted. After the primer was dry, Erika then painted the bottom of the tray a dark green hue using DecoArt craft paint in Forest Green. The splash of green paint was already adding a dose of personality to this lackluster tray. Erika didn’t stop there. She browsed our large collection of craft stencils and chose the Pineapple Stencil pattern. The fruity pattern represents hospitality so it’s perfect for a tray that could be used to serve cool beverages to guests in the Summer. With her stencil in hand, she was ready to start stenciling. She applied a repositionable craft spray adhesive to the back of the stencil and positioned it on the top of the tray. Erika painted the design with a stencil brush in Modern Masters metallic bronze and green. If you are recreating this project at home, please make sure you brush off any excess paint onto a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed. Erika lifted the stencil to reveal her Pineapple design and then she flipped the tropical pattern and painted it in the reverse direction. She did this until the tray was covered with three alternating pineapples. Are you ready to see how it all turned out? Here is Erika's stenciled Ikea serving tray. Mahalo!
