Kristen has an adorable little girl named Mila and while she's a cutie, her overwhelming abundance of toys in the living room is not so cute. She felt like the house was always a mess and she was constantly cleaning. In complete frustration, Kristen moved all of the nonsense into her daughter's room. Once it was all out of sight, she felt like Mila needed a nook in corner where she could play quietly. Kristen turned to Pinterest for ideas and quickly fell in love with the idea of a teepee reading nook. When she started to look into purchasing a teepee, she couldn't bring herself to spend $100 or more on such a simple item. Cutting Edge Stencils comes to the rescue! Kristen used our Little Diamond Allover stencil pattern, paint, wooden dowels, and a pair of old black leggings to pull it all together. Let's talk about how she did it. First, she gathered up the materials to stencil which included the following:
  • King sized flat sheet
  • Little Diamond Allover stencil
  • Stencil brush ( For this project, Kristin used a sponge instead of a brush)
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Mustard acrylic paint
  • Textile medium (to be mixed with the acrylic, making it better for fabric purposes)
  • Painters tape
  • Paper towels
  • Paint tray or plate

Be sure to put something like a plastic tablecloth under the fabric to protect the floor. Then she positioned the stencil design on the sheet and used painters tape to hold it in place. Kristen poured her craft paint onto a tupperware lid. little-diamonds-allover-stencil-diy-stenciled-teepee-reading-nook-painting If you're recreating this project, you'll need to dip your stencil brush or sponge into the paint and blot off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel until the brush or sponge looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is to use as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Next you will paint the design onto the fabric with the stencil brush or sponge. For this project, Kristen used black and mustard yellow acrylic craft paint. Kristen randomly painted mustard-colored diamonds to add a splash of color. Way cheaper and more personal than buying fabric at the store. And this little nugget of mine is thrilled with her new room!" We can totally see why. This space looks awesome!
