A Stenciled Granite Fireplace Makeover Using the Rabat Craft Stencil

Good morning, my DIY friends! It sure is cold outside in Northern NJ these days. This wintery weather makes us, at Cutting Edge Stencils, want to curl up by a toasty fireplace. But wait, is that fireplace looking dated and dull? Then it's a good thing you've stopped by our blog today because we're going to see how one DIY blogger used our Rabat Craft pattern to give a granite fireplace a stylish makeover. We'd like to introduce Kammy, the creative DIYer behind the blog Kammy's Korner. Kammy had an old granite fireplace. It was a beautiful focal point in the room but she had her heart set on giving it a painted makeover. Kammy had multiple friends warn her not to paint the granite since it's not a material that is commonly painted. Despite the warning signals, Kammy was going to move forward with her idea. Here is what it looked like: The first thing that Kammy did was paint it using Zinsser's Perma-White using a sponge roller. After three coats, the paint had dried hard onto the granite and she felt it wouldn't scratch off. Then she was ready for the fun part, stenciling! Kammy chose our Rabat Craft Stencil, a popular Moroccan pattern in a craft size which was perfect for her project. Kammy used painter's tape to hold the stencil in place and a dense foam roller to paint the pattern. She painted the pretty pattern in a soft gray that she created by mixing a little black paint into Zinsser's Perma-White. After she painted one section, she would un-tape the stencil and reposition it to stencil a new section. She did this until the pattern was complete on the fireplace. Once the whole fireplace was stenciled, Kammy added a gorgeous antique trunk to hold the kids' toys and some blankets. Ready to see how it all turned out? We love seeing awesome stencil projects like this one. The before and after pictures prove that while this was a risky project, it was well worth it. The stenciled granite is stylish and chic!
