Craft Custom DIY Accent Pillows Using A Paint-A- Pillow Kit
Good morning, my craft friends.
Cutting Edge Stencils knows that finding the perfect accent pillow can be difficult. The right color, the perfect pattern, and an affordable price range make it a decorating challenge. That's why we love the idea of creating our own DIY pillows. We'd like to welcome back our sister company,
Paint-A-Pillow. For those that missed it, we introduced Paint-A-Pillow
here but to give you a quick refresher, it's an innovative stenciling kit that will allow you to create your own designer accent pillows in a snap. Come take a look at today's inspirational pillow project.
We'd like to introduce Bonnie, the super creative crafter behind the blog
Revolutionaries. Bonnie loves stenciling and has stenciled several projects using Cutting Edge Stencils. She jumped at the chance to try one of our new Paint-A-Pillow kits. Bonnie mentions in her post that she has been looking for living room accent pillows for awhile and hasn't been able to find anything that she loved or went with her color scheme. She said, "The concept of receiving a fluffy pillow insert, a lovely linen cover, choosing an incredible design, and choosing beautiful colors that match my decor perfectly -- um... am I in heaven?" She ordered the
Indian Arrows stencil kit along with an extra pillow cover and several fabric paints in ruby red, turquoise, and black. We're going to give you a quick glimpse at her gorgeous stenciled accent pillow and then we'll fill you on all the juicy details!
Bonnie was so excited to receive her kit in the mail. She said, "Even the packaging was impressive! I love it when companies care about the "little" details." The kit includes everything you need to make one accent pillow. We're talking about the stencil, pillow cover, pillow insert, fabric paint, and painting tools. Don't you just love super easy DIY projects!
Bonnie set up her craft station and was ready to go. She poured her fabric paint into a foam tray. For the first pillow, she decided to paint the arrow pattern in ruby red and black using a dense foam roller.
** If you're recreating this at home, be careful not to overload the roller with paint. Roll off the excess paint onto a folded paper towel until the roller looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.
Once the entire pillow cover was painted, Bonnie peeled back the metal tabs holding the stencil in place and cleaned off the stencil in the sink. Then she was ready to stencil her second accent pillow. She used the same stencil for her second pillow but changed the colors to turquoise and black.
Once the pillow covers were dry, Bonnie stuffed the pillow inserts inside and set them on her couch! Ready to see how it all turned out?
Bonnie said, "Don't they go beautifully with my
embroidery hoop collage?" We think so!
