DIY Valentine Themed Accent Pillows
Valentine Accent Pillows Using the Tribal Arrow Paint-A-Pillow Kit
Good morning, my crafting love birds! With Valentine's Day right around the corner, we have been decorating our homes with red roses and pink handmade hearts. We are certain that no romantic setting is complete without an accent pillow. And that's where
Paint-A-Pillow shoots an arrow through our hearts!
Cutting Edge Stencils is feeling love struck by today's DIY stenciled accent pillows. Come take a look.
We'd like to welcome back Sarah, the decorating guru behind the blog
Just The Bees Knees. We first fell in love with Sarah's decorating talents when she used our
Faux Bois stencil to makeover her bathroom. We reached out to Sarah to see if she'd like to try Paint-a-Pillow and she jumped at the chance. Sarah explored the Paint-A-Pillow website and selected the popular arrow pattern, the
Tribal Arrows Paint-A-Pillow Kit. She also purchased several extra Jacquard fabric paints and black suede tassels to embellish her pillow. Here is the creation that has captured our hearts:
Cupid has certainly struck with this cutie! Now let's talk about how you could easily recreate this pretty pillow cover. Oh, and don't miss the Paint-A-Pillow giveaway that
Just The Bees Knees is hosting.
Sarah was excited when her kit arrived in the mail. She set up the items in her craft area and was ready to start stenciling.
Sarah decided to stencil the arrow pattern in three different gray hues. She purchased the neutral gray and then lightened and darkened it using white and black paint. Then she sampled her paint colors on a swatch of fabric that is included in the kit.
Sarah used a stencil brush to paint on the pattern.
**If you're recreating this at home, be careful not to overload the brush with paint. Brush off the excess paint onto a folded paper towel until the brush appears to be almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.
Once the entire pillow cover was painted, Sarah peeled back the metal tabs holding the stencil in place and cleaned off the stencil in the sink. She commented, "The painting was so much easier than I thought! The stencil holder held the pillow cover in place perfectly so there was no shifting or movement when painting."
To complete her accent pillow, Sarah added black suede tassels and then she stitched her initial and her sweethearts initial using red embroidery thread.
And that's how she did it folks! Sarah had this to say about her craft, "I love how it turned out! And I was also pleasantly surprised at how soft and flexible the fabric is after it dries.."
Right now, Just Bee's Knees is giving away one free Paint-A-Pillow kit on her blog so hop on over and
