Learn How To Stencil DIY Arrow Accent Pillows
Create Custom Designer Pillows Using the Indian Arrow Paint-A-Pillow Kit
Good morning, my DIY friends.
Cutting Edge Stencils has been spotting trendy arrow motifs in all forms of home decor lately. We're super excited to have just launched several
new arrow stencil designs to support this craze. We also believe the easiest way to introduce a trend to your current decor, especially if you're hesitant to fully embrace it, is through accent pillows. We'd now like to hand over the blog to our sister company,
Paint-A-Pillow. For those that missed it, we introduced Paint-A-Pillow
here but to give you a quick refresher, it's an innovative stenciling kit that will allow you to create your own designer accent pillows in a snap. Come take a look at today's inspirational pillow project.
We'd like to introduce Melissa, the decorating enthusiast and fab DIYer behind the
Shabby Love Blog. Melissa was looking for new accent pillows for her living room so she jumped at the chance to try Paint-A-Pillow saying, "I'm very excited that I get to make them myself with an easy stenciled design! " She chose our
Indian Arrows kit with white fabric and fabric paint in black and neutral gray. Here is what she created with her pillow stencil kit:
Have you been struck by the arrow of love after seeing this cutie? It's trendy, personalized, and perfect for any space. Now let's talk about how you could easily recreate these arrow stenciled pillow covers.
Melissa was excited to receive her pillow kit in the mail. As she opened the box, she was happy to see it came with everything to kick off the project. Melissa said, "The kit comes with everything you need to make a pillow - pillow insert, pillow cover, stencil, paint, roller, tray, and stencil brush! When I opened the box, everything was so beautifully packed. It was like Christmas!!!"
Now that she had the kit, she was ready to start stenciling. Melissa was super excited about the frame used to hold the pillow cover. She commented, "And the best part? The cover already comes set up and ready to stencil. Paint-A-Pillow came up with this genius way to stencil the cover and keep it in place without the use of tape." Melissa poured her black and gray fabric paint into a foam tray. Then she used a dense foam roller to paint the arrow pattern.
If you're recreating this at home then be careful not to overload the roller with paint. Roll off the excess paint onto a folded paper towel until the brush or roller looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.
Once the entire pillow cover was painted, Melissa peeled back the metal tabs holding the stencil in place and revealed her trendy arrow pattern. Then she was ready to stencil the other side of her accent pillow.
Melissa had this to say about her finished project, "I was pleasantly surprised to find here that everything was absolutely perfect!!!!! No bleeding, no smudging, no mistakes whatsoever! Yay! . "
Once the paint was dry, Melissa was ready to insert the pillows into the stenciled covers. She said, "Then I zipped my pillow inserts inside the covers and plopped them on my couch! Love them!! "
