Stenciling DIY Accent Pillows Using A Paint-A-Pillow Kit
Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Have you been looking to add fresh new accent pillows for the season? Rather than purchase a whole new set of pillows, it's much easier and more cost effective to keep a set of pillow inserts and simply update the pillow covers. Paint-A-Pillow sells customizable pillow covers that makes the switcheroo super simple. Let's take a look at a fun Paint-A-Pillow project.
We'd like to introduce Meredith, the creative DIYer behind the blog Arts and Classy. Meredith wanted to add a pop of Summer color to her living space. So when we introduced her to Paint-A-Pillow, she was excited to craft new accent pillows in fun Summer colors. Meredith ordered the Peacock Feather Paint-A-Pillow kit, a white pillow cover, and Jacquard Fabric Paint in pink and turquoise. She also ordered an additional stencil, the Alexa Pillow Stencil, and an additional pillow cover with insert.
If you're a visual person then you'll love this awesome quick video that Meredith put together on how she stenciled her pretty peacock feather pillow.
Meredith was excited when her Paint-A-Pillow kit was delivered. With her Peacock Feather Paint-A-Pillow kit in hand, she read through the simple instructions that were included and was ready to start her project.
Meredith chose to paint the majority of the peacock feather design in pink using a dense foam roller. Then she painted the center of the feather in turquoise using the stencil brush included in the kit.
** If you're recreating this at home, be careful not to overload the brush and roller with too much paint. Brush or Roll off the excess paint onto a folded paper towel until it looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.
Once the entire pillow cover was painted, she peeled back the metal tabs holding the stencil in place to reveal her painted pillow. For her second pillow, Meredith chose to paint the Alexa stencil pattern in turquoise and pink.
When the painted pillows were dry, Meredith stuffed the insert into the cover. Just like that, her painted accent pillows in fun Summer colors were complete!
Meredith had this to say about her stencil project, "I really enjoyed the simplicity of this kit and the quality of the materials sent. I really love my two sided accent pillows that now grace my living room!" That's awesome!
