Stenciling Accent Pillows For An Outdoor Reading Nook
Use Stencils To Create Outdoor Accent Pillows
Good morning, my crafty friends.
Cutting Edge Stencils hopes you're enjoying the warmer weather months by spending time outdoors. If your backyard oasis could use a little freshening up then we'd love for you to consider stenciling some accent pillows. DIY accent pillows are a great way to add pattern and color. It's also an easy way to freshen up a space that has been neglected over the long winter. Let's take a look at today's inspirational outdoor pillow projects.
We'd like to introduce Ty, the creative DIY blogger behind
Mama of 3 Munchkins. Ty admits that she loves DIY home decor (we knew we loved her!). She says, "It’s so relaxing to make something, and then the pride I feel when it comes out great is AWESOME." So needless to say it was love at first sight when she stumbled upon
Paint-A-Pillow. Ty has been working on creating her own personal reading nook on her patio. A reading nook is simply not complete without the perfect accent pillows. So she browsed the site and fell in love with a damask pattern, the
Wild Berry Damask. She selected two white-colored pillow covers and Jacquard Fabric Paint in black along with some metal studs. Before we spill the beans on how to recreate this project, we'll give you a quick glimpse at her stylish accent pillows.
We love them, don't you? Ok, let's talk about how she created these DIY beauties. Ty was happy to see that her kit included everything she needed to kickoff this project. She mixed her Black Jacquard Fabric paint and then poured it into the foam tray.
Since she was painting the pillows all one color, she chose to use the dense foam roller that is included in the kit. ** If you are painting with more than one color, we always suggest starting with the lighter color first.
Ty was careful to not overload the roller because this would cause the paint to bleed under the stencil.
When the pillow was completely painted, Ty peeled back the metal tabs holding the stencil in place and carefully lifted the stencil off the pillow cover.
Doesn't that pattern look gorgeous? She let the paint dry and then heat set the pillow using a warm iron so that it was washable. Ty was ready for the fun part, embellishing her accent pillows using
square metal studs. She simply pressed the metal stud through the fabric and then used a pencil eraser to push down the clasp down and hold the stud in place.
Here are Ty's beautifully stenciled accent pillows.
Ty had this to say about her project, " I think I’m either going to use this pillow in my
outdoor reading nook or with my new back yard set, so I sprayed it with some waterproofing spray when I was finished and now I can use it indoors or outdoors without worrying about it getting ruined. I love it and think I’ll order a couple more!
