Stencil Your Favorite Farmhouse Wallpaper Trends for Less!
Cutting Edge Stencil’s gorgeous Farmhouse and Cottage Stencil Collection will transform your home into a charming, yet stylish space filled with character. Farmhouse décor has evolved from “country kitsch” to modern and clean. Wall stencils are quickly replacing age-old wallpaper in the DIY community, and now the homes of people who LOVE to keep up with the hottest trends. In this blog post, we are going to teach you TWO super easy painting techniques that will transform your home into a chic county dream. You’re going to want to start with a blank canvas and what’s better than a big white wall?! Our first step is to create a textured appearance as a basecoat before we begin stenciling. Pour Behr’s “Bamboo Shoot” paint in a flat latex finish onto a paper plate. Then take a microfiber rag a scrunch it real tight. Dip the microfiber rag into the paint and offload just enough onto a paper towel so the rag is still lightly covered with paint. Now blot it onto your wall creating a textured looking basecoat. Using this rag technique is a quick and inexpensive way to paint your wall like a faux finisher! For this wall, we are going to be using the Jacobean Allover Wall Stencil. Apply repositionable spray adhesive to the back of your wall stencil before you begin. This will reduce your chances of any paint seepage that might occur under the stencil. Attach a Clip-On-Stencil Level to the bottom of your floral wall stencil to make sure that it hangs straight.Mix Raw Umber acrylic paint and Black acrylic paint to create a dark chocolate brown color. Take a ¾” Professional Stencil Brush and gently dab your paint in random sections on the stencil. Now, take a 4” Dense Foam Roller and lightly roll Benjamin Moore’s‘Bermuda Turquoise” over the entire wall stencil. Blend the blue and dark brown really well.We want to give our stenciled accent wall a subtle vintage feel. There are two ways to complete this look. You can take your 4” Dense Foam Roller and roll on your Bermuda Turquoise a little blotchy so you can see through some areas of the paint.Another way to accomplish this vintage farmhouse stenciled accent wall is by taking a 2” Dense Foam Roller and roll over the stencil with Bamboo Shoot lightly in some areas and blend it with the Bermuda Turquoise. I personally liked this technique more than the other because it tones down the turquoise color and the stencil pattern looks a bit smoother.Once the paint dries after about two minutes, realign the stencil with the previously painted registration marks and repeat! Stenciling is an inexpensive and FUN alternative to applying farmhouse wallpaper in your home. You can customize your stencil colors and pattern to fit your personal taste. Did we mention the number of compliments you'll get from your guests when they find out YOU stenciled that trendy wall design! Check out our stencil ideas gallery for more stenciling inspiration!
