The Zamira Stencil Transforms A Diamond In the Rough

Cutting Edge Stencils Spots the Zamira Stencil in the Feast Watson Re-Love Project

Happy Hump Day, my creative DIY friends! Cutting Edge Stencils is super excited because we spotted one of our fabulous Moroccan stencils in Australia's Diamond Valley Leader newspaper. It gets even better. As it turns out, our stencil was used to upcycle an old piece of furniture that was going to be auctioned off for charity. The whole transformation was part of a Re-Love Project by Feast Watson, an Australian based wood finishing manufacturer. Here's a peek at the article but more importantly, we can't wait to give you the 411 on the project! It's an upcycling journey of nine Australian designers, who have been tasked with transforming worn pieces of wooden furniture using a range of Feast Watson wood care products. The goal is for each designer to create a unique statement piece that will then be auctioned off on eBay to design enthusiasts with all of the proceeds going to Salvos Stores, the Salvation Army. The Zamira Stencil Transforms A Diamond in the Rough We'd like you to meet Sarah Whiting, the clever designer behind Sarah Belle Designs. Sarah was asked to participate in the Re-Love Project and she had this to say, "I love the idea of giving a used piece of furniture a new life, but I also believe something that is handmade has so much more sentiment to it than a store bought item." She found this piece on eBay and picked it up for $70. From the moment she saw this piece, she had several ideas of how it could be transformed. A before shot of a wood table used for a stencil project. A very pretty piece of traditional wood furniture, right? Well, Sarah had a creative vision for it. She wanted to stencil a bright bold pattern on the top and replace the knobs with something quirky. The first thing she did was sand the existing finish off using an electric sander. She coated the table with Feast Watson Black Prooftint using a brush. It's a black wood stain that allows the natural wood grain to show through. Then she primed her table legs and painted them Magnetic Magic by Dulux (similar to Benjamin Moore's capri seas 2047-40). Sarah selected our intricate Zamira Craft Stencil to complete the look of her table makeover. She used painters tape to adhere the stencil pattern to the table, a foam roller to paint the pattern, and the same turquoise paint color she used on the table legs. Ready to see the final piece? Here it is and here's what Sarah had to say about this stenciled beauty, "I’m extremely happy with how the stenciling has turned out, especially considering this is my first go at stenciling furniture!" Sarah's completed piece was entered into the auction on Ebay. It ended up selling for $355 after a bidding war in the last few minutes. All of the proceeds went to support a fabulous charity.
