Stencil Designs Featured In This Old House Magazine's September Issue!
Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! We just are so excited to see our stencil patterns were featured in the latest issue of This Old House Magazine. A painted wall design certainly adds character and style to any space. Before you rush off to buy the September issue, let's talk about the details of this recent stencil sighting.
Stylish Stencil Decor Used In A Mudroom Makeover
In the section titled Paint Ideas: Branching Out on page 29, the popular home tutorial publication shares how to create a whimsical drop-off zone with a delicate stencil pattern and a dose of bold color. The publication writes, " Hardworking mudrooms and entryways deserve a focal point that goes beyond book bags and rain gear. In this Hoboken, New Jersey, rowhouse, a lone built-in bench became a pulled together outdoor scene, complete with a lively, eye level avian assortment plus resting places for outerwear." The clever magazine attributes this making of this stylish setting to the Birds In Trees Allover Stencil and five shades of paint.
The first thing they did was tape off the midline on the wall. They left the top half of the wall white and painted the bottom half a bright green hue using Benjamin Moore's Perennial. After the wall and the bench were painted, they were ready for the fun part stenciling! The stencil was lined up above the tape line and carefully positioned using the clip on stencil level. Painter's tape was used to hold the tree stencil in place and a dense foam roller painted the pattern in Perennial Green.
To enhance the whimsy nature of the tree pattern, the birds were painted in red, yellow, and orange acrylic craft paint. Once the stencil design was complete, the stencil was removed to reveal the pretty pattern. A small paint brush was used to touch up any bleed that may have occurred while completing the project. Hooks were added to the wall to complete the functional mudroom.
We love how cheerful yet organized this stenciled mudroom looks!
