Fabulous Furniture Makeovers

Stencils And Paint Add New Life to Old Pieces of Furniture

Happy Friday, my crafty friends! It's time to start thinking about what you're going to do this weekend. Cutting Edge Stencils is here to share an easy DIY idea that involves paint, our stencils, and an old piece of furniture. Yup, we all have them. The old dresser you had as a kid or that armoire that looks like it has lived one too many lives. Well today we're going to share some stenciled inspiration that will entice you to give it a stenciled makeover. Upcycling furniture with paint and stencils has multiple benefits. It can add new life to your existing pieces, it's cost-effective and it's eco-friendly. So let's get started!

Meet Marie, the creative mind behind The Interior Frugalista. Marie had been using this small armoire since the 70s in her master bedroom. Recently she expanded her closet and had no need for it anymore so she decided to give it a makeover. The original piece of furniture was a natural wood color with a glossy finish. Marie sanded the piece down and then painted it using Country Chic Chalk Paint in Vanilla Frosting. After it was painted, she applied Country Chic Tough Coat, a scratch resistant top coat. To complete its vintage look, Marie gave it an antiqued brown glaze and attached glass handles. This all sounds amazing right? Well the next part is our favorite. Marie decided to add a surprise pop of color and pattern to the interior of the armoire. First she painted the inside Country Chic Chalk Paint in Elegance Blue and then she stenciled our Birds of Paradise Damask Stencil pattern. To top it all off, she lined the drawers with a similar colored wallpaper. Once it was all complete, Marie took a good look at it and thought hmm, why should she hide this in a bedroom. She said, " I think it would also make a nice small hutch in a kitchen or dining room with the doors left open." We love that idea!

Next we'd like you to meet Marti, the crafty DIYer from The Bayou Bungalow. Marti stumbled upon an old dresser and knew it was a flea market find. She decided to paint it blue, but not being a total blue fan herself, she decided to add a pattern to tone down the blue look. First she painted the dresser using Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint™ in French Enamel, then she stenciled our Birds on Branch Wall Stencil pattern. Marti had this to say about her stencil, "I love this stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils and the people there are awesome to work with!" Awe, thanks Marti! You're making us blush. Once her stencil was dry, she applied a coat of Hemp Oil as a topcoat. Presto chango! Marti created this gorgeous stenciled dresser.
