Stencil Patterns Can Add A Fun Twist To Ombre Painted Kitchen Chairs

Welcome back, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Banish those dingy dining room chairs with paint and whimsical stencil design. This easy DIY project can instantly update to your kitchen and brighten your eating space in a snap. Stenciled kitchen chairs add an unexpected splash of pattern. Come see how we put an ombre painted spin on a set of old kitchen chairs using several Flower Stencils. Erika, our in-house craft guru, is known for her furniture makeover projects. She scooped up a set of four wooden kitchen chairs at a local garage sale. The first thing she did was clean off any debris and lightly sand the chairs. To keep this project simple, Erika planned to spray paint the chairs using Rustoleum Paint and Primer spray paint in various shades of blue (Ink Blue, Lagoon, Wildflower, Vintage Teal). Erika set up her work station outside. Because the primer is built into this paint, she did not prime the chairs. Here is she is spraying the first chair in Ink Blue. Erika let the painted chair dry for 48 hours before she started stenciling. For this project, she chose a medium size circular flower pattern called the Magnolia Vine. This beautiful vine pattern is one of our Japanese Mon inspired stencil designs. Graceful floral and animal designs like these were used as family crests ( or mons) in ancient Japan. Erika applied spray adhesive to the back of the stencil. We like to use Sticky Note spray adhesive which can be purchased on Amazon. Then she placed the stencil on the front of the dresser. For the stencil color, Erika used Benjamin Moore Navajo White. She used a 2" dense foam roller to paint the pattern. She made sure she rolled off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed. Then she painted the entire pattern on to the chair. Once the entire design was painted, Erika lifted the stencil back to reveal the pattern. Each chair was sprayed a different shade of blue and then Erika followed similar instructions for stenciling the seat. She did mix it up a bit with her stencil choices but stayed within the Japanese Mon inspired stencil collection. The patterns included the Water Plantain Stencil, Bittersweet Curl Stencil, and the Chrysanthemum Twist Stencil. Are you ready to see how Erika's stenciled kitchen chairs turned out?
