The Best Garden Stepping Stone Update using Stencils

Cutting Edge Stencils wants to show you how to transform cheap cement pavers from your local home improvement store into gorgeous garden stepping stones with JUST ONE
tile stencil!! When it starts to warm up, we start thinking about how we can decorate our yards and gardens while also saving some money in our pockets. You can gather really great outdoor
stencil project ideas from home improvement magazines, Pinterest, and even our Cutting Edge Stencils blog!
For this project we bought new paver stones from Home Depot for under $4 each. SUCH A STEAL! Next, it was all about choosing the perfect tile stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils. What's great about our tiles stencils is that they are the highest quality stencil and can be used more than once. We used the same tile stencil 9 times! We tried all different paint color combinations and it still held up. Let's get stenciling!!
Which supplies do I need?
What type of paint should be used?
We ALWAYS recommend using a
flat latex or acrylic paint on all surfaces because it dries quickly! In this project we used both. All
floor surfaces
MUST be sealed with a top coat to protect it from traffic and weathering. We recommend
Varathane Water Based Polyurethane. Yes, this will last even outdoors!

Step 1:
Head to Home depot or any local hardware store to purchase your perfect square pewters! Each 16" square was only $4 ! We purchased 9 for this specific project but depending on the size of your yard, you might need a few more!
Step 2:
Make sure you dust off any debris that might be left on or in the cement! Then apply the spray adhesive to the back of your stencil. This will help reduce your chances of bleed! Carefully place the tile stencils on the center of your cement stone and pat it down really well. It must stick to the tough grainy surface!
Step 3:
Now we can begin the
stencil process! Take your professional stencil brush and gently pounce the paint in the desired areas. You have all the freedom to create any design you want! Because the cement slabs are so porous, don't be afraid to really pounce and swirl the paint in with your brush. You will most likely need a second coat of paint to create a bold look!
Step 4:
Apply 2-3 coats of that water based polyurethane with your 4" dense foam roller! This will ensure years of protection from the outdoor elements!
