A Stencil Pattern Adds Pizzazz

Stencils Are An Easy Way To Add Personality To a Space

Good morning, my DIY pals! Have you ever updated a room and while you loved the end result, you felt like it was missing something? Let's talk through the scenario. You're super excited about your room transformation. You've gone through the check list and have crossed off new paint, new lighting, and new furniture. It seems like you thought of it all, but when you look around it's missing that special something. It's possible that you need some pattern to give the space its missing pizzazz. Cutting Edge Stencils has the perfect idea in mind! And oh, yes it involves stencils. Let's take a look... A DIY stenciled accent wall in a living room using the Casablanca Stencil. http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/products/allover-stencils We'd like you to meet Marilyn, the design enthusiast and creative DIYer from Breaking Bexley. Marilyn's husband needed to relocate from Boston to the Midwest due to his career. Since Marilyn was a coast lover it was hard to lure her away, but her husband promised they would purchase their first home once they moved. While searching for a house, they both fell in love with a 72 year old brick cape that reminded them of their old Plymouth stomping ground. The structure itself was in great condition but it needed updating on the interior. Once of the first projects on a long list of updates was the living room. The living room was painted an egg-yolk yellow. Marilyn wanted to paint the room a blue-gray, similar to Benjamin Moore's instinct AF-575. Then she wanted to construct a set of white built-in bookcases surrounding the windows and add some recessed lighting. Here are some before and after shots of the living room. A before shot of the DIY stenciled accent wall in a living room using the Casablanca Stencil. http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/products/allover-stencils The new paint, lighting and bookcases really transformed the space, don't you agree? Marilyn loved it but she felt that the space around the window needed some "pizzazz." She started to look at wallpaper as a way to add pattern and personality to the area. The more she thought about it, the less she wanted to wallpaper, especially since she was still removing decades of old wallpaper from the rooms upstairs. It's really hard to want to contribute more wallpaper to a house when you realize what a hassle it is to remove it. A friend of hers recommended stenciling (we love this friend). She ordered our Casablanca Allover stencil pattern and selected a warm metallic similar to Martha Stewart's yellow gold. Marilyn had never stenciled and was nervous to take the plunge, so once her stencil arrived she called over some friends to help her through the project. Here they are stenciling the accent wall. OK my stenciling friends, are you ready to see the newly decorated living room? Here it is... The gold really warms up the blue room." We think her stenciled pizzazz turned out awesome! Tell us, would you consider using stencils to add pattern to your home?
