How To Stencil a Beautiful Accent Wall With Botanical Wall Stencils
Sophisticated Botanical Wall Stencil Inspiration That Will Have You Saying Goodbye To Floral Designs!
Welcome back DIY devotees! The seasons are changing and so are the trends.
Cutting Edge Stencils has a large variety of
Tree & Branch Wall Stencils that is constantly
“growing,” and we want to show you that even though it’s time to say goodbye to the greenery, it’s a chance to say hello to
TWO modern botanical accent wall ideas that will have you reconsidering traditional floral
stenciled accent walls.
Let’s begin with a botanical
stenciled accent wall that’s so easy, any beginner stenciler can do it! The
Birds in Trees wall stencil does all the work for you, all you need is your paint color (ours is Black by Benjamin Moore) in a flat latex finish.
Before you begin stenciling, put blue painters tape on your baseboard and apply
repositionable spray adhesive to the back of your
wall stencil. Spray adhesive, one of our favorite
stenciling necessities, is used to help your wall stencil stick to the wall and reduce any chance of stencil seepage that might occur under the wall stencil. You can reapply the spray adhesive after every two or three repeats.
Place your tree stencil at the bottom of your wall, as close to the baseboard as possible. Make sure your
wall stencil in completely straight by adding a
Clip-On Stencil Level, to the top of your wall stencil.
Evenly load a 4” dense foam
roller for stenciling with your paint on a paper plate. Roll on light layers of paint instead of one thick one. This will reduce your chances of bleed significantly!
Take your foam
roller for stenciling and roll downwards towards the baseboard for a crisp line.
Align the
wall stencil with the previously painted registration mark.
All trees don’t look exactly the same, right? That’s why
Cutting Edge Stencils designed a single branch stencil that comes
FREE with the large
tree wall stencil so you can add branches where ever you want and avoid a repetitive look!
You love the botanical aspect of the Birds in a Tree
stenciled accent wall, but you want a softer, more organic look. We have a stencil for that, actually, make it three!
Cutting Edge Stencils was founded by professional painters that used their custom
Fresco stencils on their exquisite wall murals painted in homes across the NYC area. Now, they want to share their original stencil designs and
empower the DIYer by allowing them to stencil their own wall murals at home!
Our first stenciled accent wall only required one tree stencil. For this grey botanical feature wall, we used three different branch stencils to more of a variety
Lemon Tree Branch stencil,
Peach Tree Branch stencil,
Pear Tree Branch stencil. For this accent wall, we are also starting at the baseboard. Our plan is to attach the different branches, connecting them upwards. Place the stencil so it’s overlapping the baseboard a half-inch.
Roll your dense foam roller for stenciling over the wall stencil. Because we placed the stencil overlapping the baseboard, we are going to take a ¾” Professional
stencil brush and pounce the brush into the corner while holding the stencil still, for nice crisp lines.
When you’re ready to work your way up the wall, choose the
thickest part of your previously stenciled branch, and connect with a similar size portion of your other
branch stencil. PRO TIP: To avoid getting paint in unwanted areas on the wall, place a piece of blue painters tape on the stencil over the area you do not want to paint on and keep on stenciling!
INSPO ALERT: We LOVE
wall stencils because they are totally customizable! When it comes to
botanical wall stencils, we commonly see the stenciled wall pattern reaching all the way up to the ceiling creating a woodland wall mural before your very eyes. Now, remember we mentioned the trends are changing? People are now using tree wall stencils to stencil only ¾ up their feature wall and we can't get enough!
