A Stenciled Entryway Using the Otomi Allover Stencil

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! The entryway of your home doesn't need to be a decorated afterthought. It's easy to set a warm and welcoming tone in your entryway using stencils. Today we're sharing a stenciled entryway makeover using our Otomi Allover Stencil. Come be inspired... We'd like to introduce Samantha, the creative blogger behind Once and Future Home. She was one of the participating bloggers for the One Room Challenge (ORC). The ORC was designed by Linda from Calling it Home and its purpose is to have DIY bloggers put their creativity, perseverance and patience to test by completing a room makeover in six short weeks. Samantha and her family live in a charming apartment in Brooklyn, NY. The hallway of her apartment was dark, crammed, and lacked personality. She had previously painted it blue but has grown to hate the paint color. Here is the hallway she started with... Samantha had a big project ahead of her and only six short weeks to complete it. You can read about the DIY projects that she completed on her blog, Once and Future Home, but we're going to focus on one task in particular. Stenciling! Samantha wanted to enhance her hallway with a wall pattern. She said, "I'm going to get rid of that dull, flat blue and replace it with a gorgeous gray and white Otomi pattern." Samantha considered wallpaper but it's so expensive that she decided to use a stencil. Wall stencils make adding pattern to a space simple and inexpensive. Samantha had planned to use an Otomi pattern all along. She browsed our large collection of stencils and found the perfect pattern for her makeover. The Otomi Allover Stencil is a fun pattern inspired by traditional Mexican tribal textiles. First, Samantha painted her entryway a bight white hue. Then she was ready to start stenciling! She used blue painters tape to hold the stencil in place on the wall. Then she poured her paint into a small tray and painted with a dense foam roller. Samantha painted the tribal pattern in a taupe-gray hue that she found in the oops section of her local hardware store. After each stencil design was painted, Samantha would un-tape the stencil and reposition it until her entire entryway wall was painted. Once the stencil was complete, Samantha stepped back to admire her handiwork. Then she completed several more DIY projects to polish up her entryway. Ready to see how it turned out? Here is Samantha's newly stenciled entryway. Samantha commented, "Uh, yeah, I love it! This little area is small and hard to photograph, but changing it fully changed the feel of our home. It's the first space you see when you come in, of course, and you can also catch glimpses of it from the whole front of the apartment."
