Make A Statement In the Stairway with the Hacienda Stencil
Stencils Are An Easy Way To Add Personality To a Space
Good morning, my DIY pals! This week Cutting Edge Stencils has been buzzing about the Year of Change Challenge. We think it's an awesome idea started by the gals from Suburban Bitches to inspire their fellow DIYers to complete their home decor goals. It's easy to pass by those undecorated spaces everyday and think someday you'll get to it. Why wait? Let's make today the day that we cross those projects off the list! And to jump start you in the right direction, we're sharing a stairway makeover that is sure to inspire. Let's take a look... We'd like you to meet Sarah, the design enthusiast and creative DIYer from Life on Virginia Street. Sarah and her husband probably go up and down the basement stairway a dozen times a day. Although it's a high traffic area, the staircase had been neglected. It lacked personality and had been painted with flat paint that showed every scuff and mark. Now that Sarah joined the Year of Change Challenge, she vowed to spruce this space up. Here's what it looked like before the makeover: Sarah chose to paint the stairway Behr's Castle Path, a warm neutral gray. Then she selected our Hacienda Allover Stencil, one of our new trellis stencil patterns, because it reminded her of the Windsor Smith Pelagos fabric that she loves. Sarah used painters tape to keep her stencil in position while she painted. Then she painted the pretty pattern in Slate by Restoration Hardware using a Matte Velvet Finish. Her favorite tool during the stenciling process our our clip-on stencil level. She said, " I will give an A++++ {maybe more pluses} to Cutting Edge Stencils for the genius little level you can buy to attach to your stencil. This was life saving and made the project go much more quickly." Here she is working through the project: Once the stenciling was complete, Sarah added four framed pieces of fabric. She already had Schumacher Avebury Floral Vine fabric from another project and felt that subtle pop of color worked well with the gray Hacienda stencil. OK my stenciling friends, are you ready to see the newly decorated stairway? Here it is... And here's a close-up of the gorgeous stencil work. Sarah had this to say about her completed project, "I think the print looks amazing on this wall and adds so much character to this space!" We love it too!
