We'd like to introduce Norma, the DIY decorating enthusiast behind the blog
The House That Will. Norma had a guest bedroom that she hadn't decorated. It was filled with furniture so it was functional but it lacked design and personality. Here is the room she started with...
Norma wanted to inject her personality into this blank canvas. She turned to Pinterest for decorating ideas and eventually put together this design plan. Norma commented, "The view includes the garage roof, which obviously isn't particularly attractive. To compensate for this I wanted to make sure that there would be lots of interesting things to look at inside the room."
Her plan included lots of color and pattern to create to visual interest in the room. There is a chimney that rises from the ground floor through the roof and awkwardly divides this room. Rather than hide it, Norma decided to feature it with a
stencil pattern! A stenciled wall pattern is an easy and cost effective way to add visual interest to a room. Norma browsed our large collection of
geometric stencils and fell in love with the
Drifting Arrows Allover Stencil, a trendy design that combines the herringbone and arrow patterns. This pattern was very similar to her design plan.
To kick off this paint project she painted the walls in O Fortuna by Colortrend, and then painted the chimney wall in Almost White by Colortrend.
With her wall painted and her design in hand, she was ready to start
stenciling. She used painters tape to hold the stencil in place on the wall. Then she poured her paint, Jacquard's Lumiere True Gold metallic paint, into a small tray and painted with a dense foam roller.
Once the stencil was complete, Norma stepped back to admire her beautiful work.
Norma continued to pull together her guest bedroom makeover and you can read all about it on her
blog. Let's take a look at how this stylish guest bedroom turned out.
Now this is one stylish looking guest bedroom! Norma had this to say about her stenciling project, " This was my first time using a stencil and I think it's a great way to add pattern and visual interest to a wall. I am very pleased at how stenciling enabled me to turn this eyesore into an interesting feature in the room."
Norma mentioned on her blog, " Our Guest Bedroom is far more adventurous than I ever thought I could be with my interior design, and I find that very exciting. "
Here is a close-up of the pretty gold
wall stencil pattern.
