Welcome back, my stenciling friends! We're a little curious about which room you spent the most time in this past weekend. Does it feel like you spent your entire weekend in the laundry room washing and folding clothes? It's ironic that a room that we often spend so much time in, is also one of the most decor neglected spaces in a home. Kim from Savvy Southern Style used our Brocade No. 1 (small) to transform her laundry room into this little ray of sunshine. She loves how the ornate pattern breaks up the hawthorne yellow HC-4 colored walls.
Just because your laundry room is in your basement doesn't mean it needs to be boring. Take a lesson from Laura, the blogger behind A Step in the Journey. She used our Zinnia Grande stencil to add a playful flower to her laundry room walls.
We even have a stenciled laundry basket that's super fun. Caroline from Henry Happened, created a nifty looking laundry basket using our Chevron Stencil in a color similar to Benjamin Moore's golden chalice 2151-20. We think it's strip-tastic!
Jenna started with a neutral colored laundry room that she described as tan, boring, and lacking organization. She was the lucky winner of one of our stencil giveaways and chose the Casablanca Stencil. As soon as she found out she was a stencil winner, she started dreaming up all the places to use her pretty pattern. It was then that she decided that her laundry room needed a makeover. Here's her before shot:
First she painted a base coat on her wall using a color similar to Benjamin Moore's simply white OC-117. Then she stenciled the Moroccan pattern in a sophisticated shade of black similar to black satin 2131-10. The black and white Casablanca pattern is super stylish. After her stenciled accent wall was complete she added pops of yellow color with a $5 sign she snagged at the Hobby Lobby and a yellow trash can from Target.
We promised jaw-dropping gorgeous and I think Jenna delivered! It's amazing how a little paint, pattern, and organization can transform a laundry room. She had this to say about her newly stenciled space, "Now I'm (almost) glad to do laundry!" Awesome job, Jenna!
Tips for Stenciling Black and White:
High contrast colors (like black and white) look amazing in a stenciled space, but it can be more challenging than stenciling similar colors. With high contrast colors, you are more likely to see imperfections as you go. Here are some useful tips when stenciling a dark color on a light background similar to the laundry room shown above.
1. Make sure you don't have too much paint on your paint brush or roller. After dipping your brush or roller into the paint, off-load it onto a piece of paper towel.
2. Don’t apply too much pressure to your stencil. It is tempting to do this to get paint into all the nooks and crannies,but we have found that rolling in all different directions will eventually get all the places without pushing too hard.
3. Use spray adhesive. You can stencil 4 or 5 times before you have to spray the stencil again. It really helps make it crisp and clean. Spray the stencil lightly then wait 30 seconds for it to dry a little. This should eliminate leaving a residue on your wall.
