We'd like you to meet Angela, the proud mama to Isadora and DIY blogger behind
Shelterrific. Angela wanted to transform her daughter's room from a cutesy toddler space into a little girl haven. Here is the space before its makeover.
Filled with primary colors and rounded corners, the space was perfect for a toddler. But Isadora was growing up and she needed a space to reflect her growing personality. Angela wanted to create a space that would last her daughter well into her teen years. She debated the color and finally landed on a blue grey color,
Beacon Gray by Benjamin Moore.
Once the perfect paint color was chosen, Angela decided a pretty pattern would complete the look. She loves how small rooms look when they have one wall papered in a delicate, small repetitive pattern. So she set off on a quest to find just the right wallpaper, but after looking through samples she didn't find anything she loved. Then Angela started to think, " We’ve heard that wallpaper doesn’t take wear and tear well, and we know it’s a pain to take down. Perhaps a stencil will be better? " We love that idea! Angela realized that she was drawn to the basic repeat pattern that was the same tone and color as the wall. She purchased our
Julia Allover pattern. Angela poured her paint, Benjamin Moore's
November Skies, which was one shade darker than the base wall color into a painters tray.
Using a dense foam roller, she painted the pretty flower pattern onto the wall. She also used blue painter's tape to hold the stencil in place. Angela says, "The secret is to keep your brush nearly dry. After you load it with paint, dry it off on paper towels before touching the wall."
Once the pattern was complete, it was time to step back and enjoy it. Doesn't it look just like wallpaper?
Angela completed the stenciled nook by adding a mid-century Russel Wright dresser that had been hers as a child, some eye-catching wall art, and a vintage globe.
Oh, and the only other decor item that we love as much as the stencil is this dipped wooden chair. Angela picked up a wooden chair for $20 at a thrift store and added a splash of color.
