The Best Stencil Projects of 2013
Cutting Edge Stencils Shares our Favorite Stenciled Projects for 2013!
Welcome back, my DIY decorators! Cutting Edge Stencils was just about wrapping things up for the year. The blog is going on a bit of hiatus until 2014. We're looking forward to spending some extra time with our family and friends during this holiday break. But before we kick back and pass out the eggnog, we thought we'd do a little walk down memory lane. 2013 was a great year for Cutting Edge Stencils. We launched several NEW stencil collections, reached 75K+ Facebook fans (can you believe this?), and have been spotting our stencils in major home decor magazines and on HGTV. We owe it all to you, our fabulous and loyal fans, who continue to support us. We can't begin to thank you enough and we look forward to a stencil-rific 2014! Let's take a look at the 10 fan-favorite projects of 2013... 10. Stenciling A Luxurious Bedroom: Kicking off our countdown is this luxurious bedroom painted by Pam, the home décor enthusiast behind the blog Simple Details. She had signed up to complete a one room makeover which included stenciling her bedroom walls. Pam used our Alexa Allover Stencil in Martha Stewart Living: Precious Metals Specialty Finish in Kiwi Peel. Glittering and totally glamorous, we love this space! 9. Stenciling the Moroccan Dream Pattern in Metallics:Do you remember this beauty? Katherine, the self-proclaimed interior design junkie behind the blog KM Decor, gave her plain- jane bathroom a makeover. She selected a warm gray with a brown undertone as her base color and then chose to stencil our Moroccan Dream pattern in Champagne Metallic by Folk Art. The sheen of the metallic combined with the Moroccan design take the powder room to a designer-like level. Check out that post for more metallic tips!
8. Benjamin Moore Starts a Trend with Stenciled Kitchen Backsplashes When our favorite paint brand used one of our stencils in their 2013 Color Trends brochure, we were beyond elated! It's quite an honor to have your stencils displayed in paint stores across the country! More importantly, we think they may have picked up on a new kitchen trend. Benjamin Moore's city-chic kitchen used our Chain Link Allover Stencil to create a painted backsplash. Gorgeous, don't you think? The best part about this project is that it's so achievable! Stenciling a backsplash in a kitchen is way cheaper than some of the alternatives like stone and tile. We think we'll see a lot more stenciled kitchens in 2014! 7. HGTV's Power Broker Features The Trellis Allover Stencil: This was a very special project for us because we got to see one of our favorite stencil patterns make a cameo on HGTV's Power Broker. In this episode interior design magician, Alice T Chan, is brought in to help a couple transform their new home. She used our Trellis Allover Stencil to take this bathroom from drab to fab! 7. How to Create Stenciled Pallet Art: This past year, we spotted stenciled pallet art all over Pinterest. The idea of reusing something old to create something new is a cool concept. So we worked with one of our favorite bloggers, Kelli from Lolly Jane. She had some left over wood shingles from her parent's old house stored behind her shed. After digging through the pile she came up with about 7 pieces that she thought would work well for her art project. She secured them together and then painted her Home is Where the Heart Is Stencil in some fab colors. Easy peasy. You should pin this one so you can come back and complete it later! 5. Stenciling a Paneled Wall ~ Yes, It's Possible!: We get this question a lot so it doesn't surprise us that this was a popular topic! Paneling seems to plague many older homes and yet knocking down every wall is just not an option. Roeshel, the DIY extraordinaire from The DIY Showoff, transformed these paneled walls using our Verde Damask Stencil in a soft white stenciled hue. If you have paneled walls then be sure to check out that post for the stenciling scoop! 4. Give Your Windows A Stenciled Treatment: Window treatments truly complete the look a room and yet they can be so difficult to choose and so costly to purchase. We strongly feel that a stencil pattern is the perfect way to embellish your windows. Take the lead from Andrea, the fab DIYer behind the blog Andrea+Kris+Our Chaos. She used our Herringbone pattern on a set of white curtain panels from Ikea and gold FolkArt paint. Fabulous and thrifty, we love it! 3. Stenciling A Sweetheart Table for a Garden Event: Now here is a stencil project that really swept us off our feet! Helen the DIY furniture makeover queen from Picked and Painted, had an old table sitting in her garage. She fell in love with our lace-like Charlotte Allover Stencil and decided to create a stenciled sweetheart table. It's the perfect accent for an outdoor wedding or garden party. So if you're tying the knot in 2014, then you might want to add this pretty accent to you decor list! 2. Video Tutorial: Tips & Tricks for Using the Chevron Stencil: From pillows to walls, this zippy zig-zag was spotted in all aspects of home decor in 2013. To make painting the favorite pattern a little easier to obtain, we put together a detailed how to video and step-by-step tutorial. So if you love the look and are thinking about using this stencil for your next project then make sure to check out this post! 1. Painting a Geometric Stenciled Floor: And our numero uno project for 2013, drum roll please... is the Shipibo Allover Stenciled floor painted by Jessica Davis, an interior decorator and owner of Nest Studio, DIY expert and blogger behind The Eagle's Nest. Can we have a round of applause? Earlier this year, we featured a detailed tutorial on how she stenciled this amazing kitchen floor. More recently, this stunning project was featured in the November issue of Woman's Day Magazine. Now that calls for a standing ovations! And that about wraps up our 2013 countdown. What are your stencil plans for 2014? We'd love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
