The Secrets to Painting Beige...
Stencils Add Style and Substance to Neutral Home Decor

Cutting Edge Stencils is ready to talk color today, are you? You are, great! OK well let's talk about the oh so popular paint color beige. Although a lot of paint colors come and go, nothing has remained as popular as the color beige. Often maligned as boring or dull ( I can hear my color extremists moaning, " No not boring beige."), it certainly still is one of those colors people find they can live with long-term. The problem with beige is that in a monochromatic setting, it can in fact be just too boring. Here is the perfect example of a simple beige living space:
While there's nothing wrong with this space, in fact it's probably symbolic for the majority of home owners, it lacks something. Now don't get me wrong, we have nothing against this best-selling neutral. In fact, beige is often the secret weapon of interior decorators. The color itself is reassuring and restful. Shades such as cream, putty, and almond set the stage for rooms that are harmonious and uncomplicated. We actually love beige but there's a secret to painting beige and today we're going to let you in on it!
Stencils and Subtle Touches of Color Bring the WOW Factor to a Space
The main problem with an all beige space is that it lacks depth and visual appeal to help keep the eye interested. In really simple terms, all it needs a little WOW. Varying textures and small pops of color can easily elevate a room to the designer feel. And when you're feeling non-committal to color, stenciling in beige tones is the easiest way to add depth and texture to your space. Then toss in a couple of throw pillows or decorative elements in a fun accent color and you instantly have a posh pad.
Theresa's living space (show below) is probably the perfect example. Theresa had a putty color living space that is similar to Benjamin Moore's
consentino chardonnay 247. It's a great creamy neutral with hints of golden yellow. She then stenciled the
Wild Berry Damask stencil to give her walls an eye catching pattern and added simple pops of blues and greens using throw pillows. Gorgeous, don't you agree?
Boring brown? NO WAY! Saudah, one of our Facebook friends, added some visual interest to her neutral color space using the
Trellis Allover Stencil and various pops of red. For a similar look try Benjamin Moore's
jonesboro cream 241, which is a classic creamy beige.
Hallways and entryways tend to be neutral spaces because they connect with other rooms. Just because it's neutral doesn't mean it has to be bland. Ginger from
Ginger Snap Crafts, transformed her entryway from drab to fab using the
Harmony Damask Stencil. She shoo'd that boring beige right out the front door! Using a color similar to Benjamin Moore's
rattan AF-375, it has a stately and sophisticated look when combined with the damask stencil design. Tell me you're not drooling over this organizational wall?!
I'm going to admit, I'm slightly jealous of Michelle and Shawn's family room (shown below). Classically chic, they managed to transform this beige colored room into the perfect retreat. Use a color similar to Benjamin Moore
grenada hills gold 229 and don't forget your
Anna Damask stenciled accent wall to perfect the look!
For those who are slightly more adventurous and looking to take a small step towards color then you're gonna love the next space. Crystal from A Little Bit Funky even titled her post,
Feeling Brave! She stenciled the
Hourglass Allover Stencil in a pretty turquoise color over her beige wall. Crystal has this to say about the result, "Stunning...if I do say so myself. It makes the whole room cozy and warm and beautiful." We have to agree!
So there you have it folks! There's no need to repaint your room when a simple stencil can do the trick!
