Stenciling a Wallpaper Look In A Dining Nook Makeover
Rise and Shine, it's Monday morning my stenciling friends! Do you remember last week when Cutting Edge Stencils shared the stencil feature from the October issue of This Old House Magazine? It was all about using stencils to get a fabulous wallpaper look but for a fraction of the price. Well no sooner did we spot that article than we came across another smashing example, a dining nook using our Rabat Allover Stencil.
It was a phased transformation and the first part involved removing the wallpaper and painting the walls. After awhile, she noticed her paint was chipping in some spots. She attempted to fill them in with the same color paint but unfortunately, there was a slight difference in the touch-up coat and this bugged her. Here is her painted space prior to stenciling.
Jenna Sue had never stenciled before but she had been eying some gorgeous stenciled spaces. That's when she decided there was no better place to test her stenciling skills than the dining nook. After searching for the perfect pattern she landed on our Rabat Allover Stencil because she said, "I loved the simplicity and elegance."
Once the stencil arrived, Jenna Sue got right to work. First she watched the video on how to flatten a curled stencil and then gathered her painting supplies. She used blue painter's tape and a spray adhesive to adhere the Moroccan pattern to the wall. Then she painted the stencil design using a roller. She would coat the roller with paint and then off-roll it on a piece of paper towel so that it was not too saturated. For the base coat, she chose a simple white hue. The stencil was painted in Valspar's Magic Spell, a lovely shade of beige.
Here is Jenna Sue's jaw-dropping gorgeous dining nook. The Rabat Allover pattern is simply stunning and looks like wallpaper from a distance. She had this to say about her newly stenciled space, "And that is that! I love seeing the transformation. We've come a long way from mirrored walls, multiple wallpapers and carpet. And it was all worth it." We have to agree that her transformation was pretty AH-mazing! Great job, Jenna Sue. We're so happy that you love your stenciled space.
