Learn How to Stencil A DIY Wall Frame Using the Casablanca Card Size Stencil

Good morning, my DIY decorating friends! Do you feel like your space is lacking wall art? Cutting Edge Stencils feels that wall decor adds the perfect personal touch to a space. But finding the right piece of wall art can be a challenge. That's where we come in! Why search near and far for the right pieces when you can create it using stencils. Come take a look at these simple but impactful wall art projects. We'd like to welcome back Kristi, the DIY craft queen (as we like to call her) from Notes For My Little Ladies. You might remember her project from last week. She gave a boring white Ikea magazine rack a patterned makeover using our Zamira Card Stencil. Well Kristi has been bitten by the stenciling bug because she's back at it again. This time she decided to create some DIY wall decor. Kristi said, "I've been doing some redecorating, trying to add a little bit of color and style to my house." First up, was the wall space next to her front door. She started with a simple black frame with a white mat, a small L, and a large wooden L. Using one of our new card size stencils, Kristi created some adorable wall decor. Kristi says, "What a difference a little paint and stenciling makes!" We totally agree!

Today we're going to give you the inside scoop on how to recreate the look of that stenciled frame (this project comes from Notes For My Little Ladies ):

First you're gonna need this stuff listed below:

• A simple black and white frame
• A card size stencil (for this project the Casablanca Card Stencil was used)
• Stencil brush <--- We prefer the one in this link.
• Blue painter's tape
• Small paint tray or plastic plate
• Paper towels
• Acrylic craft paint (found at a local craft store like Michaels or JoAnns)

1. Gather Materials: Start the stencil project by gathering all of the materials listed above. Kristi purchased a black frame with a white mat. 2. Start Stenciling: Pour some paint onto a plate or paint tray. For this project, Kristi used a custom mix of blue and white acrylic craft paint. Tape the stencil to the mat to hold it in place. Using your Stencil brush dip it into the paint. Blot off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel until the brush looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Always start with the edges. Use a dabbing motion with your stencil brush to start painting in from the edges of your design. 3. Tape, Paint, Repeat! You will need to reposition your stencil to continue the design. Simply line it up with the painted pattern. Continue on with the pattern until the entire mat is covered. 4. Paint the Frame! Complete the look of your custom frame by painting it. For this project, Kristi mixed some colors to get a light yellow hue. Then she painted the frame using a brush. Once your frame is painted and your stenciled mat is complete, you're ready to combine the two. Then step back and admire your gorgeous stenciling job! See how easy that was?
