How To Stencil A Pegboard Organizer

A Simple Stencil Tutorial Featuring The Stephanie's Lace Pattern

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! Did you know that you could transform a pegboard organizer from drab to fab using stencils? If your tween's bedroom needs an organization makeover then we have the perfect project for you! It's both easy and affordable. Today we're going to show how to stencil a pegboard organizer and create a pretty bedroom nook for your child. Let's get started... We'd like to introduce Stacy, a DIY guru and crafty mama often spotted on Hometalk. Stacy's daughter has a pretty bedroom with an Ikea loft bed. It's perfect except for organizing all the fun hair accessories, nail polishes, and lip glosses that come along with a little lady. Stacy wanted to better organize the space so that all these beloved little items had a spot. She purchased an inexpensive pegboard from Lowes and gave it a designer look using using the Stephanie's Lace Allover Stencil. We're going to give you a sneak peek at the stenciled bedroom nook and then we'll fill you in on how she did this! First you're gonna need this stuff listed below:

• Pegboard (for this project a 4 ft. by 4 ft. pegboard was used)
• A stencil (for this project the Stephanie's Lace Allover Stencil was used)
• Dense Foam Roller <--- We prefer the one in this link.
• Painter's tape
• Small paint tray or plastic plate
• Paper towels
• plastic tablecloth
• Craft paint found at Michaels or JoAnns

1. Gather Materials: Start the stencil project by gathering all of the materials listed above. Stacy purchased a 4 ft by 4 ft piece of pegboard from Lowes for about $10. Then she painted the pegboard using Sherwin Williams Refresh, a cool minty hue. 2. Secure The Stencil: Find a flat surface to complete your stencil project. Stacy used her dining room table. Be sure to put down a plastic tablecloth under the pegboard while you are painting it. If the paint bleeds through or drips, the plastic tablecloth will catch it. Secure the stencil in place using painter's tape. 3. Start Stenciling: Pour your craft paint onto a plate or paint tray. Then lightly coat your Dense Foam Roller with paint. Be sure to roll off excess paint onto a folded paper towel until the roller looks almost dry. It is important to use as little paint as possible when stenciling. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Next you will paint the design onto the pegboard with the roller. For this project, Stacy used Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Everlasting. 4. Complete the Pattern: Allow the paint to dry a little and reposition the stencil so you can continue to paint the pattern on the entire pegboard. Stacy chose to place the lace pattern in each corner and the center of the board. Let the paint dry for about two hours before you hang it. Stacy had this to say about her stencil project, "It really creates a nice little private area within her bedroom. I know she loves her new "dressing room."
