Stencil Patterns Can Help You Create Otomi Wall Art

Welcome back, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Making DIY wall art is simple and affordable when using one of our stencil designs. These custom pieces of art can be a great addition to any room. Personalize your space with your favorite stencil pattern with this simple project. Today we're sharing how to turn a plain canvas into a custom piece of artwork using our Otomi Craft Stencil. Erika, our in-house stencil guru, was browsing one of her favorite home decor shops, Anthropologie, and she spotted this gorgeous Otomi wall art for $278. Yikes! That's pricey. The good news is that Erika is both clever and crafty so she decided to steal the look using our medium size Otomi Stencil. To kick off this project, Erika gathered her materials which included at 16"x 20" primed canvas, a white Ikea frame, the craft tribal stencil, a four inch dense foam roller, Benjamin Moore electric orange paint, and gold spray paint. The first thing she did was unwrap the white Ikea frame and place it on craft paper. She sprayed the frame with gold spray paint to give it a metallic look. Erika decided to use one of our popular craft stencils for this fun project. She selected the medium Otomi Craft Stencil. This pretty pattern was inspired by traditional Mexican tribal textiles. With the stencil pattern in hand Erika was ready for the fun part, stenciling! She sprayed the back of the stencil with Sticky Note spray adhesive which can be purchased from your local craft store or Amazon. Repositionable spray adhesive can help hold the stencil in place and reduce bleed. She poured Benjamin Moore electric orange paint into a small tray and then rolled a 4" dense foam roller into the paint. She made sure she rolled off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed. Erika painted the entire Otomi design. Once the entire design was painted, Erika lifted the stencil back to reveal the pattern. It was looking better already! Erika had centered the pattern on the canvas so she needed to finish it off to the edge on each side. Erika lined up the stencil. She painted the pattern to finish off the side. She placed the stenciled canvas inside the frame. There you go! All it took was some paint and our Otomi Craft Stencil to transform the plain canvas into a boho chic piece of artwork! Tell us, what craft stencil would you use to create a custom piece of artwork?
