Craft A Wall Tapestry Using Stencils
Stencils Can Transform A Drop Cloth Into A Custom Wall Tapestry
Welcome back, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! A wall tapestry is an easy and inexpensive way to add color and pattern to a space without the commitment of paint. Whether you are renting or staying in a college dorm, our stencil patterns can be used to create the custom tapestry of your dreams! Come see how a drop cloth can be transformed into a custom wall tapestry using our popular Geometric Stencils.
We'd like you to meet Lisa Jennett Wood, the design enthusiast and creative DIYer behind the blog Madera Vine. Lisa's daughter was going off to college and she wanted to help her personalize her dorm room. She picked up an inexpensive drop cloth and planned to make her a custom wall tapestry. Isn't she a great mama? We think so! To kick off this creative project, Lisa browsed our website and fell in love with our Brush Strokes Wall Stencil. This pattern echoes a popular chevron or herringbone design, with a carefree artistic twist. Perfect to decorate a college dorm! Lisa bleached the drop cloth and then ironed it. With the whimsical stencil pattern in hand she was ready to start stenciling! She used blue painter's tape to hold the stencil in place. You could also use spray adhesive on the stencil which would help hold it in place and reduce bleeding. She chose a range of earthy-toned hues for this project including a mustard, burgandy, and blues. Lisa used a stencil brush to paint the pattern. If you are recreating this project at home, be sure to brush off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the stencil to bleed. After the pattern was painted, Lisa would untape the stencil and reposition it until the entire cloth was stenciled. Once it was complete, she stepped back to admire her crafty work. Lisa painted a rose gold band along the top of the tapestry and added grommets. She hemmed the edges of the stenciled drop cloth to complete the project. Lisa posted , "My daughter is being a goof ball but the truth is they do love the way it looks in their dorm room. " She had this to say about her stencil project, "It was a fun DIY project! I hope they enjoy it for a long time!" We love how this turned out and we are sure her daughter will enjoy having a piece of her Mom while away at college.
