Create Designer Accent Pillows In A Snap With Paint-A- Pillow
Good morning, my craft friends. Do you have guests visiting next week and you're looking for an easy way to punch up that decor?
Cutting Edge Stencils has got your back. Or at least we can help provide a little patterned cushion for it! One of the easiest ways to update your decor is with some fresh accent pillows. We'd like to welcome back our sister company,
Paint-A-Pillow. For those that missed it, we introduced Paint-A-Pillow
here but to give you a quick refresher, it's an innovative stenciling kit that will allow you to create your own designer accent pillows in a snap. Come take a look at today's inspirational pillow project.
We'd like to introduce Carol, the creative DIYer behind the blog
The Polka Dot Closet. Carol recently gave her bedroom a Hollywood Regency makeover using
Cutting Edge Stencils. She did an awesome job stenciling it so we offered her an opportunity to test out Paint-A-Pillow and she jumped at the chance. Carol mentions in her post that she has been looking for living room accent pillows for awhile and hasn't been able to find anything that she loved or went with her color scheme. She ordered the
Birds on A Branch kit, the
Paisley stencil along with an extra pillow cover and several fabric paints in turquoise, brown, and white. We're going to give you a quick glimpse at her gorgeous stenciled accent pillow and then we'll fill you in on all the juicy details!
Carol was so excited to receive her kit in the mail especially since it included everything she needed to make one accent pillow. We're talking about the stencil, pillow cover, pillow insert, fabric paint, and painting tools.
Carol commented, "
The pillow case was already on the cardboard frame with the stencil attached over it by the gold clips........All centered and ready to go....This is a no fail project! " Don't you just love super easy DIY projects!
For this project, Carol purchased three different paint colors.
Then she consulted our
Custom Color Chart to make her own personalized hues. You can create pretty much any color using simple mixing methods and primary colors. All you have to do is mix the color right on your tray or in an empty paint jar. Make sure to stir the paint thoroughly with a stirring stick and mix enough paint for your entire project.
Carol set up her craft station and was ready to go. She mixed her custom paint colors in a foam tray. For the first pillow, she decided to paint the paisley pattern in latte using a dense foam roller. Her second project featured the Birds on a Branch pattern and was painted in french blue using a stencil brush.
** If you're recreating this at home, be careful not to overload the roller with paint. Roll off the excess paint onto a folded paper towel until the roller looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.
Once the entire pillow cover was painted, Bonnie peeled back the metal tabs holding the stencil in place and cleaned off the stencil in the sink. When the pillow covers were dry, Bonnie stuffed the pillow inserts inside and set them on her couch! Ready to see how it all turned out?
Carol said, "
They turned out perfect! " We totally agree!
