DIY Painted Accent Pillows & A Giveaway!
Paint-A-Pillow Shares DIY Accent Pillows Using the Alexa Stencil
Welcome back, my craft friends.
Cutting Edge Stencils has been buzzing a lot lately about our sister company,
Paint-A-Pillow. I guess it's easy to get excited about an innovative stenciling kit that will allow you to create designer accent pillows in a snap. Let's take a look at how one of our favorite craft bloggers used this creative pillow kit.
We'd like to introduce Stephanie, the creative crafter behind the blog
Simply Dream & Create. Stephanie's sister moved into her own apartment last year and she's been helping her decorate her new space. When we offered her a chance to try Paint-A-Pillow, she thought it sounded like fun and would be the perfect gift for her sister's new apartment. Stephanie ordered the
Alexa Paint-A-Pillow kit with white pillow covers and Jacquard Paint in black, neutral gray, violet, and turquoise. Here is a quick glimpse of her pretty stenciled accent pillow. Don't worry, we'll get to the details.
Don't you just love the trendy color combination paired with this geometric pattern? We do!
Stephanie comments, "I was so excited when the package arrived at my door. Amazingly all you need to paint a pillow came in this box!"
Stephanie opened her box and read through the instructions that were included in the kit. The stencil comes attached inside the Paint-A-Pillow frame so it's very easy to use.
For this project, Stephanie chose to paint the geometric design in three different colors with a stencil brush.
** If you're recreating this at home, be careful not to overload the brush with paint. Brush off the excess paint onto a folded paper towel until the brush looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.
Also when painting multiple colors, we recommend painting the darkest color first.
Once the entire pillow cover was painted, she peeled back the metal tabs holding the stencil in place to reveal her painted pillow!
Be sure to clean the stencil off in a sink so that it can be used again for another project.
When the pillow cover was dry, Stephanie heat set it so that it's washable.
Then she removed the cardboard insert and stuffed the pillow into the cover.
And there you have it! That's how she created this super stylish accent pillow.
