Stencils Give Plain Curtains A Cheery Boost

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Transform your curtains from simple to chic in one afternoon using our stencils to dress up plain, ready-made panels. Stenciling DIY curtains is an easy and affordable way to create custom curtains and truly complete the look of your room. Let's take a look at how one DIY blogger used a stencil pattern to enhance her plain white Ikea curtains.

We'd like to welcome back Erin, the home decor enthusiast and DIYer behind the blog Whaling City Cottage. Erin purchased a new home a little over a year ago. While it's new to her, it's an older home with outdated style. She has been working on giving her home a makeover with one DIY project at a time. On that list was her dining room. It was originally painted peach with a mural across the walls and green carpeting. Here is a shot of her dining room before. Next on the project list was a new set of curtains. Erin fell in love with this print from Lauren Liess. The linen material contains a paisley pattern in antique beige and sells for $120 a yard. Yikes! Use the Jaipur Paisley Stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils to recreate this Lauren Liess fabric pattern. http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/products/jaipur-paisley-wall-pattern-stencil Rather than purchase the pricey fabric, Erin decided to make her own curtains. She spotted our Jaipur Paisley Allover Stencil ($44.95) which is very similar to the paisley pattern she loved. If you are recreating this project at home, we suggest ironing your curtain panels prior to stenciling. Then place the plain curtain panels on a flat surface. It can be helpful to place a plastic tablecloth underneath the curtains to catch any paint bleed. Use blue painters tape to position the stencil on the panel and paint the design using a dense foam roller. Remember too much paint on your roller will cause the design to bleed. Roll off any extra paint onto a piece of paper towel. She snagged sturdy brass curtain rod off Craiglist for $10. Are you ready to see how they turned out?
