Style Boost a Rug With Stencils
Stenciling A Rug Using the Nagoya Allover Stencil
Welcome back, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! It's a new year and it's time for new stylish decor. Stencils are an easy and inexpensive way to give a plain jane item some pattern and personality. Let's take a look at how one of our favorite DIY bloggers used our Nagoya Allover Stencil to give her rug a stylish update!
Let's visit Kristin, the creative mind behind The Shabby Bride and contributor to the blog All Things Thrifty. Kristin had scored a gorgeous rug at Target on sale. It was a beauty but the super simple item lacked personality. She decided that the easiest way to customize it was using stencils. Here is a shot of the rug she purchased. Kristin browsed our website and fell in love with our Nagoya Allover Stencil, a popular geometric pattern. With her stencil in hand she was ready to kick off her project. She also grabbed a quart of latex paint and a jar of BB Frösch Chalk Paint Powder. Kristin placed her materials on the floor. Then she taped the stencil to the rug using blue painter's tape. She explains how to make the chalk paint using these quick and easy mixing instructions. She used a stencil brush to paint the pattern. If you are recreating this project at home, be sure to brush off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the stencil to bleed. After the pattern was painted, Kristin would untape the stencil and reposition it until the entire rug was stenciled. Once it was complete, she stepped back to admire her crafty work. Kristin commented, "I love the custom rug so much, I’ve taken it to trade shows where everyone is blown away by the fact that it was done with Chalk Paint. " Now before you rush off to create your own custom stenciled rug, check out this flipagram. If you're looking for more detail on this project or to see other projects using BB Frosch Chalk Paint Powder, be sure to read All Things Thrifty.
