Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Have you been following the April the Giraffe story? We certainly have. And while we've been waiting for April the Giraffe to give birth, we thought we'd get in a little crafting. If you weren't aware, we give away a small stencil ($4.95) with every stencil purchase. These small stencil patterns are meant to give the buyer something to test out their stenciling technique. We've seen some awesome stencil projects come to fruition from using these freebie stencils. So we thought why not give out a freebie giraffe stencil with every purchase during the month of April. Awesome, right? We decided to use our adorable giraffe pattern to craft a custom baby onesie. We all know someone who is expecting this month, right April? Come check out our latest stencil tutorial using our freebie Giraffe stencil. Let's take a look... Go ahead and like our page so you don't miss out on these interesting videos. Let's walk through the steps for completing this project. First we rounded up the supplies needed which included a package of white baby onesies, a stencil brush, paper plate, paper towel, and Jacquard Fabric paint in yellow ochre, raw umber and raw sienna. We set up our craft space for stenciling. We sprayed the stencil with repositionable spray adhesive. When the adhesive felt slightly tacky but not overly wet (about 5 minutes after spraying) we then placed it on top of the fabric. When we were comfortable with the placement of the stencil, we patted it down. The adhesive helped hold it in place. We used a stencil brush to paint the giraffe pattern. We made sure we brushed off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed. We painted the parts of the giraffe in raw sienna. Then we painted the body of the giraffe in yellow ochre. Paint the pattern in a light dabbing motion. Now it was time to add a little depth to the giraffe. We painted the spots in raw umber and raw sienna. Then we swirled the two colors together for a shading effect. When we were happy with how our design was painted, we peeled back the stencil. To seal in the design and allow the onesie to be washable, heatset the back of the fabric for 30 seconds. We are about to flood you with some adorable shots of this giraffe stenciled onesie!
