Thrift Store Bench Gets A Modern Moroccan-Inspired Makeover

A DIY Stenciled Bench Makeover Using the Rabat Stencil

Good morning, my DIY friends. Have you ever walked through a thrift store and spotted a gorgeous piece of furniture that needed a little, ok a lot, of TLC? Rather than pass the piece by, Cutting Edge Stencils wants you to snatch that item up. We have an awesome thrift store makeover today that will show you how paint and a stencil can make a huge difference. Let's take a look... A DIY stenciled bench using the Rabat Stencil. http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/products/moroccan-stencil-pattern-3 We'd like to welcome back Charlotte, the creative DIYer behind the blog Ciburbanity. Many moons ago, Charlotte and her husband were young homeowners with one Ikea coffee table, a milk crate and a mattress. In an attempt to fill their new home, she visited a local furniture consignment shop and fell in love with this beat up brown bench. A before shot of a thrift store bench that got a Moroccan stenciled makeover. http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/products/moroccan-stencil-pattern-3 A cute piece with lots of potential, especially with this DIYer! At first the bench was placed in her dining room and then moved to the foyer but it just didn't seem to work well in those spaces. Finally it was moved to her bedroom. While it didn't match, it turned out to be very useful in the bedroom. Charlotte decided to give the bench a modern makeover and spray paint it lemongrass yellow to match her bedding. Next it needed a new cushion. Charlotte is a big fan of DIY drop cloth upholstery so she decided to test it out. She already had our Rabat Allover Stencil on hand from a previous project. Rather than taping the design to the drop cloth and painting the pattern, she traced the stencil onto the canvas.
