We'd like to introduce Jo, a creative DIYer, an interior design enthusiast, and the photographer behind
the_simple_farmhouse. Seriously, she has one of the most gorgeous Instagram feeds we've seen and we totally recommend following her. Jo has been updating her home with one DIY project at a time. Her latest project was her laundry room. Jo said, "I have always wanted to have this floor ever since I saw it in the magnolia B&B. We already had tile laid so I decided to stencil my flooring. I ended up finding the perfect pattern stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils… don’t you love it?" That perfect pattern she's talking about is our
Augusta Tile Stencil from our Tile Stencil Collection. This beautiful pattern is based on traditional Portuguese Azulejos tile designs.
The first thing Jo did was clean the tile floor to ensure there wasn't any debris and then she painted it using Zinsser 1.2.3 Primer in white. Cleaning and prepping the floor is key to completing a painted floor that will last for years. With her stencil in hand, she was ready to start
stenciling! She used blue painters tape to hold the stencil in place and a dense foam roller to paint the pattern in Valspar Chalky Paint boot black.
After each section was complete, Jo would un-tape the stencil and reposition so she could paint the entire laundry room floor.
Once the entire floor was stenciled, Jo applied Miniwax Polycrylic Clear (satin finish) to increase durability and protect her beautiful painted pattern. You can read her complete tutorial in this guest post on
