Apartment Therapy Uses Wall Stencils To Make Over Ikea Furniture
Good morning, my
Cutting Edge Stencils fans! We were so excited to spot our pretty
stencil patterns while browsing one of our favorite home decor websites,
Apartment Therapy! The creative site took a $35 unfinished pine dresser from IKEA and used it as a blank slate for their creativity. They wanted to show readers how easy it can be to customize using our
stencil designs. Let's take a look at how they added bohemian details using our
Indian Inlay Stencil Kit.
The fab people over at Apartment Therapy picked up a $35 Ikea Rast unfinished pine dresser. Here is what it looked like before its stenciled makeover.
They were dreaming up ways to pretty this plain dresser up when they stumbled upon this gorgeous bone-inlay dressers inspiration at
Anthropologie. They decided to use a
furniture stencil and some paint to achieve a similar look. The
Indian Inlay Stencil Kit that was designed by Kim Myles was chosen for this project. It's a beautiful
bone inlay stencil pattern and it's perfect for recreating a designer look on an affordable budget.
The first thing they did was paint it using Martha Stewart Vintage Decor Paint in Sailor Blue. Then they planned out the stencil pattern using a white chalk pencil. The inlay kit comes with five stencil pieces that can be placed to suit the project.
Then they positioned the stencil on the dresser and used a bit of painters tape to hold it in place. If you're trying to recreate this, pour your paint onto a plate or paint tray. The pattern was painted using Martha Stewart Vintage Decor Paint in Linen. Dip your stencil brush into the paint. Brush off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel until the brush looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Next you will paint the design onto the dresser with the stencil brush. Once the pattern is complete, you'll need to reposition the stencil to complete the design. Simply pick up the stencil, align it, and continue painting the pattern.
Are you ready to see how this easy peasy furniture makeover turned out? Here is the Indian Inlay stenciled dresser hand crafted by Apartment Therapy.
Apartment Therapy wrote this about the project, " This unfinished pine dresser is a blank slate for your creativity. Keep it simple with some paint and a bit of patterned gift wrap, or embrace elaborate bohemian details with bone-inlay stenciling. Either way, you're going to get extra storage with serious style. "
