Stencil Color Trends 2012: Featuring Benjamin Moore
Eclectic Elegance

Cutting Edge Stencils' Sakura and butterflies was featured using
Benjamin Moore's Gypsy Love for the flowers, and
Farm Fresh and
Stardust for the for the
stencil branches. We love this color combination! The gray-blue walls are definitely very relaxing and beautiful but the
stenciled accent wall really add the perfect amount of color and nature's inspiration.

The
Sakura blossom is deeply rooted in Japanese tradition and symbolizes the beautiful yet transient cycle of life. Hopefully you are as inspired by the beautiful Sakura tree as much as we are and can find a way to incorporate its beauty and symbolism into a room in your own space. Getting this Beautiful Look
1. First, you want to do the faded branches in the background. To get this effect, you can either use a lighter solid color as was done by the folks at
Benjamin Moore, or you can use the same color as your foreground branches but dry brush the branches so that they are much less opaque. For the dry brush effect, simply offload almost all of the paint on your stencil brush until it looks practically dry and you then stencil with your dry brush! Makes sense right? To make this process even easier, add a touch of glazing medium to your brush to lengthen the dry time (look for glazing medium at your local craft store, it usually comes in a larger tube and is clear)
2. Once you have your background branches stenciled on, it is time for the foreground Sakura branches. Adjust the position of your
stencil so that the foreground stencil overlaps (or doesn't) what is on the wall already. Now that you are happy with the position of your stencil, use a stencil brush to fill in the two colors. To see more on how to use a stencil brush to get multiple colors check out our
