Is that an old coffee table in need of some lovin' or a foot rest that has seen better days? If dated, drab furniture is spotted in a quick glance around your home, then we have a project for you. We believe in making the most of your furnishings by repurposing or upcycling pieces into custom creations so they not only work well in your space but look good too. Stencils are an easy and affordable way to transform your ordinary furniture into something fresh. Let's take a look at some stunning examples...

Revolutionaries. Bonnie is no stenciling newbie. In fact you might recall her
Paisley Allover stenciled drum turned side-table that we shared awhile ago. Does this spark your memory?
Clever, functional, and totally fun! It's hard to forget a project like this one. After wrapping up that project, Bonnie stored her reusable stencil with the plan to use it again. Lucky for us she's been trapped in her house due to the "snow-apocalypse in Georgia." Why are we so lucky that she's snowed in? Because being stuck inside gives Bonnie a chance to stencil more furniture. A total win, win for us! She had purchased a chest about two years ago at a garage sale. According to her, "It had a lot of issues -- deep scratches on the sides and tons of stains on the top." Bonnie sanded the table really well, primed it, and painted it in black. She felt the top needed something and remembered she had a
Paisley Allover stencil that would be perfect for this project. She painted the pattern in a soft gray and sealed it with a brush-on polyacrylic. Bonnie says, "Isn't it just beautiful? I love the way the black contrasts with the cedar when it opens." We love the new life that Bonnie's creativity and our stencil managed to bring to this piece.
Next, we'd like to introduce you to Beth, the crafty upcycling gal behind the blog
Rental Pretty. About seven years ago, Beth found a white French provincial dresser/buffet at a local flea market for about $70. While it supplied storage for the family, the piece itself was a bit lackluster and lent no design qualities to her space. Beth decided it needed an overhaul. First, she painted the entire dresser a warm gray color. Then she stenciled our
Trellis Allover pattern in a creamy white on the drawer fronts "to give it a modern country feel." Beth found that using a spray adhesive was helpful to hold the stencil in place on the curved drawer front. Once the stencil pattern was dry, she added crystal knobs for the drawer pulls. The transformation is amazing, don't you think?
