Upcycle a Wood Dresser With A Moroccan Tile Stencil

Welcome! Cutting Edge Stencils is excited to teach how to give an outdated piece of wood furniture new life with a Moroccan Tile Stencil. We spotted this ordinary painted wood dresser on Facebook Marketplace for only 20 dollars. We saw great potential in it and knew we had to have it! Now, Cutting Edge Stencils wants to take you through the simple steps on how we transformed this painted wood dresser into a brand new stenciled masterpiece with our Ambrosia Moroccan Tile Stencil!

Let's Start With A Body Makeover!

Power sander on white piece of furnitureBefore we begin stenciling our Moroccan tile stencil pattern, let's work on the furniture frame. Remove the drawers and any hardware from your piece. Our next two steps are going to help us create adhesion in order for our paint to stick. First, you are going to use 120-220 grit sandpaper to sand off the preexisting clear coat on your wood furniture.

Apply Klean Strip paint stripper with a chip brush over your drawers. Once the paint looks like it is starting to peel, take a putty knife, and scrape the paint off in the same direction as the wood. It's super satisfying! ;)

Let it sit for a couple of seconds and then take a paper towel and wipe it off in the same direction as the grain of the wood. Once your stain has completely dried, it's time to start your tile stenciling project!
