Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Get ready to transform that boring bookcase that has been hiding in your basement into a fresh find perfect for any room of your house. All it takes is a little bit of paint and a fun craft stencil pattern. Stencils are inexpensive, easy to use and can easily help freshen up any old piece of furniture. Keep reading as we walk you through how simple it is to transform a boring bookcase. We'd like to welcome back Kristina, one of our crafty fans. She had a small white bookcase in the bedroom of her apartment. It was a simple, white shelf that she used to decorate the cookie cutter home. Kristina was unable to paint her apartment so she needed her decor to represent her personality. She decided that with a little bit of DIY creativity, she could bring the little white bookshelf to life. Kristina chose to add some stencil flair using the Birch Forest Craft Stencil. Here's how it turned out:

First you're going need this stuff listed below:

• A white bookcase
• A stencil (for this project the Birch Forest Craft Stencil was used)
• Dense Foam Roller <--- We prefer the one in this link.
• Blue painter's tape
• Small paint tray or plastic plate
• Paper towels
• Craft paint

Kristina started this project with a simple white bookcase. You could probably pick one up in Ikea for about $20. The first thing she did repaint the shelf white. Once the painted shelf was dry, she was ready to add a fun stencil pattern to the exterior sides. She gathered up her supplies needed for the project. Kristina used blue painter's tape to hold the Birch Forest Craft Stencil in place on the side of the bookcase. Then she poured her paint into a foam tray. She rolled the gold acrylic craft paint onto her dense foam roller. Kristina made sure she rolled off any excess paint onto a folded paper towel. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Kristina painted the nature inspired pattern in glittery gold. Then she lifted the stencil to reveal the pretty pattern. She had to reposition the pattern to complete the entire pattern. Once the stencil was complete, Kristina painted the top of the bookcase in gold. After the bookcase was completely painted, she stepped back to admire her fancy stencil work. Didn't this bookcase turn out super cute? It's amazing how adding something simple like a pretty pattern and sparkly hue can dramatically change the look of a bookcase.
